The reason that your business stops working when you're not there is because you are the business. A lot of business owners, they start their business from day one being the guy or the girl that is solving the problem, that is doing the work for the client. You're on the tools. You've learnt how to do the work. You develop this muscle for delivering great work. Then the business grows organically over time. Then maybe you get another team member on board. You then need to try and transfer that knowledge to them. You need them to understand and deliver the way that you've always delivered, which is what your clients have come to love and trust about your business. That ends up being the thing that really ends up trapping you because you've got a clear picture of what you want. You bring this new team member on board and you want them to deliver to that same standard, but you haven't really articulated what that standard is.
