Business Growth By Mergers & Acquisitions

This is a YouTube interview (recorded Sept 16, 2024) hosted by David Jenyns featuring Josh Tolley. The conversation introduces growth-through-acquisition as a strategy to skip early-stage startup struggles by buying profitable, established businesses. Josh Tolley is presented as an author (Acquisitional Wealth), talk-show host, business trainer, and chair of a holding company; he also mentions a "table method" framework that breaks business into four components.

You don't have to be wealthy to start engaging in this. You really don't. There are great ways to strategically put together deals. There are certain demographics that form groups and then they pool together to buy the first business and then the profits from that contribute to buy the next person in the community a next one.
Hello and welcome. I think the hardest part of any business is getting it started. Often it can take a few years really just to get it up and running and rolling. And not to mention that in the early days you'll build up some bad habits sometimes that are needed to start the business, but they don't really serve you when you really want to start to grow it. And oftentimes it'll hold you in that owner operator position for far too long. What if you could skip that step and maybe you could just buy pre established profitable businesses? I know that sounds too good to be true. And I think this idea of growing through acquisition, which we'll explore a little bit more about it really is the tip of the iceberg here because it is the quickest path to growth as you're looking to grow and scale your business. Typically I've been on the other side of the equation, which is selling businesses. But in every transaction, when there's a seller, there's going to be a buyer as well. So we want to explore that. And today we've got Josh Tolley, who's the author of a new book just released called Acquisitional wealth and I'll put a link through to that. But he's a talk show host, business trainer m and a strategist. He's the chairman of a holding company that has multiple million dollar businesses in a broad variety of different industries. So I think you're really going to enjoy what we're going to talk about today. So first things first though, just wanted to welcome you to the podcast, Josh.
Oh, David, thank you so much for having me.
It's.
It's great being here, man.
Yeah, rock and roll. Maybe just to start being a bit of a systems and a process guy myself. I'm. Do you see yourself as a systems and process person, really?
I don't. I value the people who are, of course, I try as much as I can to adhere to systems and processes, but I tend not to be. That's just kind of the way I am. But the, but the systems and processes are definitely valuable. I'm more of a big picture. What's the overall strategy? What sort of moves do we have to make sort of person?
Yeah, I kind of got that feeling. Looking at the table method, which I know you have this. You might not see yourself as a systems guy, but it kind of feels like a systematic approach to business in that you break business up into four components and you're looking at, you know, business from a high level. I don't know if you can just run us through those four legs.
Yeah. Well done, you. I've done dozens of interviews recently because of the book, and you are the first person to ask about the table method. That's awesome, man. So, you know, that's. That's my attempt to create a system and, you know.
