Short spoken segment from a YouTube video ("Set Big Goals - Larry Page") in which the speaker emphasizes the importance of setting big, long-term goals to attract and retain top talent, maintain focus over years, and accept that goals may not be achieved immediately—or may lead to discovering better directions with the same team.
A lot of times my issue is people are not setting goals. That will be something that somebody who becomes rich or is could do anything. You got to be excited about working that for 10 years. So you got to have a big enough goal that you attract the best people and you retain them and you keep them focused. In my experience, you don't go wrong. Maybe you don't hit it next year, or maybe you fail entirely and you discover something more exciting to work on with the same set of people.
