This is a short testimonial/transcript from Dave Porter, owner of Portavac, describing his experience implementing 'systemology' with David Jenyns and System Hub to systemize his roof maintenance business. He explains the need for systems to scale, the mindset shift from assuming staff 'common sense' to documenting processes, and that System Hub enabled staff-led system development with minimal ongoing input from him.

My name's Dave Porter. I run a roof maintenance company called Portavac, so we specialise in a fleet of these vacuum gutter cleaning trucks. From there, we do roof repairs and restorations and pretty much anything to do with roof maintenance. I was very aware that we needed the systems and I need to put the work into. In order to scale the business, but just, yeah, I physically don't have the time and with the latest experience, I'm starting to realise I'm just not capable of it anyway. So a mate of mine had told us about David's systemology idea, which definitely resonated with me as something that we could implement and be able to move forward and actually stick to the process. I worked with David and the team for probably the first two or three sessions. We worked out what we wanted to get. I've had a fair bit of input along the way, sort of seeing the finished systems and I suppose just getting an understanding of why do we need systems. Like, I've had to sort of change my thought process. Like, I've gone from just assuming that everybody's got common sense to now blaming myself and saying, well, everybody hasn't got common sense, everybody needs a system to follow. Which has yeah, been a bit of a mind shift for me. Working with System Hub has been a. It's just been a different approach. It's not an approach previously, like, I had to do it all or my general manager had to do it all and we're all so busy. So this has been a totally different approach where my staff has worked with System Hub to get the systems needed. It's just relied on me to sort of just go over it, so it's had minimal input from me. It's just definitely been something the staff and System Hub have been doing together.
