De câți ani n-ai mai fost la doctor?

In this Romanian monologue, Mihail Pautov tells the story of Vasile, a man who hasn’t visited a doctor in five years and claims that men don’t go to doctors because of family tradition. Vasile’s partner, after hearing a recommendation from Dr. Mihail, convinces him to undergo annual medical tests. The doctor discovers high cholesterol, excessive smoking, and heavy alcohol consumption, prompting Vasile to cut back on smoking, fatty meats, and alcohol. Pautov uses this anecdote to argue that many cancers are lifestyle‑related and can be prevented through regular health check‑ups and healthier habits. He further notes that married individuals, like Vasile after his partner’s encouragement, tend to adopt preventive behaviors and therefore have a lower risk of such cancers compared to unmarried people.
