In this conversational video, two clinicians explain how biofeedback uses sensors to monitor heart rate, skin temperature, breathing, and muscle tension, allowing patients to see and influence their nervous system activity. They outline the structure of an initial biofeedback visit, starting with an intake that explores the patient’s stress responses and coping strategies, followed by a sensor-based assessment that records physiological data. The session then covers proper breathing techniques and assigns simple homework to reinforce skills before the next visit. The clinicians emphasize building resilience so stress does not carry over day to day, highlighting benefits such as improved digestion, blood pressure, and energy. They position biofeedback as a non‑medication, empowering approach for those seeking alternatives to traditional pain or discomfort treatments, and invite viewers to schedule a free 15‑minute consult or dedicated biofeedback session through their online system.
Through the use of biofeedback training, a unique way of looking at your physiology. Through the use of sensors, heart rate, sweat, temperature, breathing and muscle tension, we can learn how our nervous system works. And by looking at your own nervous system, by how you're breathing and how your heart rate is affecting you, we can alter it.
During your initial biofeedback appointment with me, we're going to be doing an intake about how your body's reacting to stress. How do you really know that you're stressed and what are your coping mechanisms and how can you know that you're actually relaxed? After doing that intake, we're then going to transition over to the initial test. During the initial test, we're going to be using different sensors. These sensors are going to be measuring your heart rate or measuring about how you're breathing or even the temperature of your pinky. All these sensors are doing though, is just giving me more information about how your body physiologically is responding to stress. After that, we'll talk about breathing and when. I mean, that means how do you really breathe and how do you functionally breathe? And then you'll be given a little bit of homework for you to do. So that way on our next visit, we can start building upon those skills. At the end of the visits, our goal is for you to build resilience. I say resilience is because it's going to be natural for us and our lives to be experiencing stressors. It would be lovely if it's not. However, stressors are always going to happen in our lives. What isn't natural and shouldn't be happening though, is carrying over these feelings of being stressed into our next day and into our next day.
You can see that you can actually change the temperature in your body. You can change how your nervous system is affecting you. The net consequence of breathing and being mindful in your day is improved digestion, better blood pressure, more energy in a day. So that way you can focus on the things that really matter to you. Oftentimes when people want an alternative solution for pain or discomfort, you know, they're tired of the current strategies that have been given to them up to this point, or they're ready for something different. You know, we can provide that unique ability to help our patients be more empowered in their own ability to manage their health and wellness on their own. That's what I love about biofeedback is it's a non medication, non supplement approach to improving your health and wellness through something as simple as breathing or, you know, a meditative practice. If you're interested in learning more about mind body medicine and biofeedback, we highly encourage you to meet with myself or one of our other trained biofeedback providers at our office. That can be easily done through our scheduling system online. We have very dedicated biofeedback visits you can reach out to give us a call and have that, you know, free 15 minute consult to learn a little bit more about how biofeedback and mind body medicine can help you make those choices in your day behaviorally that make you stronger and more resilient to stress and have a more balanced nervous system in the process.
