Difference between a facelift and necklift

Corey Goldberg explains what separates a neck lift from a facelift: where each procedure targets, how the incisions differ, and why you need to talk to your surgeon about what you actually want fixed.
Hi, everybody. This is Corey Goldberg. I often get asked about a neck lift and wonder, you know, patients often ask, what is the difference between a neck lift and a facelift? Really, really important to know the difference between these, because a neck lift, as it sounds like, lifts only the neck. A neck lift would address the skin laxity around the neck. It would be able to tighten the neck, but the neck stops below the jawline. And so a neck lift really identify or work on anything along the jawline, including the jowls. Sometimes patients will come in asking for a neck lift, but really what they want to see is the neck and the lower part of their face tightened. And if that's the case, I talk to them about that and explain that a neck lift won't address anything along the jawline. People will often do something with their finger and kind of pull up to the side and say, oh, but it tightens my jaw. Look at that. What you're doing with your finger, we often call finger surgery. It's not the same thing as an actual operation. And in fact, a neck lift won't address anything on the jawline. So often. Sometimes people ask me about that, and I explain to them, in fact, what you really need is a facelift if you want to achieve your goals, which would then include the neck as well as the jawline and the cheek and the face. So a facelift actually includes the neck lift and all the same things that are done in the neck, but in addition, it extends past that to include the jawline and the face as well. The incision for a neck lift is a little bit shorter, just around the lower part of the ear and behind, while the facelift is a little bit longer, starting by the root of the ear and going down and then as well back in behind the ear. So a neck lift is only the neck. A facelift is a facelift with the neck, and both get done all at the same time. And it's all part of one procedure. So have a look in the mirror, give some thought to what your goals are. It's important to discuss this with your surgeon and make sure that you're getting the right procedure for your needs. Corey Goldberg here, wishing you all the best, and I hope to see you soon.
