Patient Diaries: Phenol Peel 6 month follow-up

This is a YouTube video titled "Patient Diaries: Phenol Peel 6 month follow-up" containing a recorded conversation from October 11, 2024, between Dr. Cory Goldberg and a patient discussing the results and benefits of a phenol peel treatment six months after the procedure. The discussion covers cosmetic improvements, skin health, and reduced risk of skin cancer.
Good to see you back.
Hi.
So how long has it been now since our peel?
Six months.
Six months. While time flies. And so now that we've made it to six months and the inflammation has all settled down, we've kind of gotten to the end. Share your thoughts. What. What do you think of the outcome?
Well, I was in the grocery store last week, and a woman that I had spoke to before I had the procedure done told her about it, and then she was like, o, your skin looks so smooth. And I thought at first, whatever, but she was like, like really obviously. And I think that's different than your family or people that see you frequently for somebody that hadn't seen you, even had seen you AF before the procedure and then after and everything had settled down. So, yeah, that was kind of nice to hear. And yeah, I'm. I'm happy with everything. Mostly I'm excited about the fact that hopefully any cells that could have been cancerous hopefully have been expelled or taken off so that I won't have that concern in the future.
Which was the biggest reason why that was. I mean, I know that we wanted to tighten skin a little bit. We wanted to get rid of some fine lines and some of the discoloration, and I think we've accomplished that. But as you said, you know, one of the things that the peel does is that removes some of that sun damage. It reduces that future risk of skin cancer. And I'm sure you remember, well, we had those couple spots on your nose that were precancerous actinic keratosis. So hopefully we've reduced that risk. I mean, there studies that show that that's the case. And so I think that we've, you know, giving you a good cosmetic benefit and also a safety and functional benefit as well.
Right.
When you look in the mirror, what. What are your thoughts?
That I'm glad that I. That I look a little younger. Yeah. That's nice. Right. But I'm just happy that I'm not looking and thinking, oh, especially darkness under my eyes that has seemed to really diminish, that I don't feel like I have to put makeup on or something. So that I noticed right away.
That's really amazing. Well, the peel, among other things, one of the things it does is it stimulates collagen formation. So your skin has actually thickened as a result of this. And that collagen. It's one of those things that we lose with aging. The elastin and the collagen in the skin thins, and the skin becomes thinner and less elastic and more sort of just stretched out. So we restored some of that. And that thickening of the skin also then means less light shine shining through the skin. So the dark circles that you notice, that's one of the things that causes that is thinned skin. So by thickening your skin with the peel, we've actually reduced that as well. So that's a really nice. A nice side effect of a peel.
