Patient Diaries: Phenol Peel - post-op night

A patient documents the first night after a phenol peel, walking through post-op care: how to use a lidocaine and Polysporin mixture, cleanse the treated skin, and apply Aquaphor to support healing.
Okay, so how you feeling? A little stingy. Okay, so that's normal. A little bit of stinging. We have already put on a little bit of the mixture of the lidocaine and Polysporin, so that we have in here in this little sterile cup. You're going to keep this in the refrigerator so it's a little bit chilly. And then that way, when you put it on every day, it will help to cool things down a bit. Three to five times per day for this. Each time you're going to put this on just a little bit, just enough to sort of coat everything. It doesn't have to be a heavy layer, but each time you put it on, I want you to clean cleanse first. So we're going to be giving you with your kit that you've got, the Biophora kit, there's a gentle cleanser that's in there, so you can use this. This helps to calm down the inflammation as well. So you do a cleanse with this, and then once you've cleansed just a little bit, wash things off, get it nice and fresh. And then you're going to put a little bit of the lidocaine polyspore mix on there. And once this has run out, and this will last you for probably two or three days. Once this runs out, then I want you to switch over. We're giving you this tube of Aquaphor, same thing, three to five times per day. You continue to use the cleanser in between. And once you've cleansed yourself, then you put a little bit of fresh stuff on, just a light layer of this and make sure you cover everything nice and evenly. And then that's it. This also, you can keep this in the refrigerator to keep it cool. If you run out of this, it's easy to get more. It's available at any pharmacy. And we can help you out with that as well. And then past that, we'll see you and we'll give you further instructions about what comes next. Okay?
