What happened to Joan Rivers

Corey Goldberg explains why multiple facelifts can go wrong, using Joan Rivers as an example of extreme surgical outcomes. He argues for natural results and choosing surgeons with the right goals.
Hi, everybody. Corey Goldberg here. And I do a lot of facelift surgery and do a lot of consultations on patients who are interested in facelift. And almost every consultation that I do about facelift, at some point the name Joan Rivers comes up. Now, most of you know who Joan Rivers is. She was a very famous actress and performer and famously known also for having a very overdone plastic surgery appearance. Now, as a result, Joan Rivers gave facelift a bad name. I can point out that facelifts can be done once, twice, even three times through a lifetime, spaced apart by many years, very safely and in a very natural way. In fact, the first goal of a facelift may be rejuvenation, but the second goal is to maintain a natural and subtle appearance. So with that, Joan Rivers most certainly did not do that. And in her lifetime, she had at least 10, if not 12 operations on her face. And some of those operations were done by surgeons that I don't think were particularly ethical in that the end result was her being overdone. And I think that that was inappropriate. Joan Rivers is not a normal outcome. And in fact, most people that you know who have had facelifts, you don't even know that they had a facelift. It should be done in a natural, subtle way. And so Joan Rivers is an example of what is done in the most extreme sense and most certainly not a normal outcome from a facelift. So make sure you talk to your surgeon. Make sure that they have the right goals in mind you. And if a surgeon recommends to you that surgery may not be the right thing and it could end up making you look overdone, it's probably a good idea to take their advice. This is Corey Goldberg, wishing you all the best and hoping to see you soon.
