Orthopedic surgeon Joshua John-Ram Schacter has 20+ years in his field and trained under world-class surgeons, but he calls himself both expert and student. Medicine demands constant learning, so the labels don't contradict.
So I was asked by a patient the other day as to whether I'm an expert in my field or if I'm still practicing. And we had a laugh about it. And it got me thinking. True, I would consider myself an expert in orthopedics. I've been doing this for over 20 years. I've been trained by world class surgeons. I've been doing orthobiologics for about five years, and I've been trained by the best in the world. Um, but I would also consider myself a student. It is the practice of medicine, so we're continually learning. And for me, right now, that is just an amazing journey. So we had a chuckle about that. And the answer is yes. Both significant.
