A short educational talk by Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter introducing platelet gel therapy for joint pain. Describes using ~60 cc of a patient's blood to concentrate platelets — cell fragments rich in growth factors and proteins — to magnify and focus the body's natural healing processes at an injured joint.

Platelet gel is a fantastic way to treat joint pain. Basically, what we do is we take about 60 cc's of your blood. And the idea is that we want to take your body's potential to heal itself and we want to magnify it. True or false? We've all been healing our cuts since we were little. Since you can remember, every cut that you've ever had is healed. And so basically what we want to do is we want to take your body's ability to heal those cuts and, and we want to magnify that and focus and direct it in one area. So the part of the blood that we're looking for is the platelet. The platelet is a special fragment of a cell that contains all of the materials that we need to really heal our tissues. A platelet goes to an area of injury, and not only does it cause you to stop bleeding in that area, but it also has insulin like growth factors, it has human growth factor, it has proteins and hormones and substances that allow us to both remodel tissue and heal tissue in a very rapid fashion.
