Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter argues that the healthcare system profits from treating symptoms repeatedly rather than solving problems. Patients get caught in cycles of prescriptions and side effects. Taking control of your own health, even outside insurance, might cost less and work better long-term.
Episodic care. Right.
So basically what.
We'Re doing is we're waiting until you have a symptom that a big pharma company or a drug company has got a big medication that they can sell for millions or billions of dollars, and then we're forced to give that to you just to treat your symptoms.
I tell a lot of my patients, if you really want to get better, you have to step outside of the boundaries of insurance. You have to take control of your own health. Yeah, maybe a little more costly, but actually, if you look at the numbers, I think it's going to save you money in the long run.
That's exactly what healthcare companies want. They want us to have you coming back and back and back and getting treated by more and more expensive medications and getting more and more side effects that we can then give you more and more medications for.
Yeah, there's nothing empowering about that whole system whatsoever.
