I would never do a steroid injection. Steroid injections damage your joints. As soon as we inject that steroid into your joint or soft tissue, it begins to damage that soft tissue. We know that steroid injections can increase or accelerate your arthritis by about 20% per year if you get more than one or two. And we also know that steroid injections increase your risk of infection after a surgery. Third, we know that steroid injections damage tissue. So if you have a steroid injection into your rotator cuff, that can cause your rotator cuff to tear or be weaker later.
