Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter explains how regenerative injections like platelet gel and bone marrow work faster and longer than steroids for joint pain. Regenerative treatments start working in 2-5 days and peak at 3-5 months, lasting a year or more. Steroids take about a week to kick in.

We specialize in joint pain and some of these injections, particularly in and around the shoulder, can be painful. And so we provide our patients with a regional block. So we'll actually go and numb the nerves around the shoulder. We find them with ultracell. We go in and numb them so that it's much more comfortable for patients. And most patients, even with the shoulder, which is kind of the more challenging joint to deal with, patients are reporting that there's very little pain now. It can be sore for a couple of days afterwards. Typically we find that platelet gel or bone marrow begins to work a lot faster than a steroid within about two to three days or maybe three to five days. Whereas a steroid can take as long as a week to really kick in. And what we're finding is that patients reach their point of greatest benefit not just at that two to three day mark, but usually out three to five months. And that benefit will continue to carry through to a year or even longer.
