Hey, guys. Criben Govenda from the Gut Health Gurus podcast. I've got a background in food science and today I have a spectacular guest for you, Dr. Dimple Janga. Welcome to the show, Dr. Dimple.
Thank you so much, Krivin. So nice to be here.
It's my absolute pleasure and what I like to do at the start of every podcast. And I know we're going to go really kind of, I would say surface level, but people can go deeper into this area. But we're going to talk about Ayurveda. So it's an amazing ancient Indian system of medicine, which I know very little about. So I'm looking forward to hearing more from Dr. Dimple. But Dr. Dimple, at the start of the show, I'd like to get to know straight from the horse's mouth, who is Dr. Dimple?
Thank you so much. K. So I'm the founder of Prana Healthcare center in Mumbai. It's an Ayurvedic clinic and we've treated about 3,100 patients from 43 countries in the last five and a half years. From for chronic diseases right from multiple scleresis, paralysis to clinical depression to constipation, common cold, and even post chemotherapy detoxification. We specialize in that. We specialize in gut and colon health. And I have a team of doctors, therapists, biotech researchers who work day in, day out to get that information out and to bridge the gap between traditional Ayurveda and modern science. Because there's a huge gap between traditional preventive healthcare sciences and curative sciences. They have to come together to save humanity. And I also have Prana Academy, which basically empowers people to become the dietitian of their own body. Instead of having to run to expensive dietitians and spend money through the nose, you become the dietitian of your own body. Because, see, monkeys don't go to college to learn how to climb a tree. They are not certified tree climbers. So we don't have to be certified nutritionist or anything to learn how to eat our own food that should be practical intelligence or intuitive intelligence that has already been instilled in our body. We just need to activate it. And we've had this intelligence since we were a baby. Right? A baby doesn't crave pizza and burgers. A baby craves mother's milk, breast milk. A baby craves sweet fruits, foods like melons and mangoes because it helps in building tissues. Bananas. Right. A baby doesn't create pizzas and burgers. But that intuitive intelligence has got crafted. So we do workshops and master classes and We've had about 85,000 students from all over the world who've done our workshops. And we've had about 7,000 students have done the masterclass from 64 countries. So the world is an oyster. The world is a global village. And preventive healthcare Life sense has brought us all together. So that's who I am. And I'm really excited for my launch of the book which is going to come out in October with Penguin. It's called heal your gut, mind and emotion, which is where I think we share common interests.
Amazing. What an amazing intro. And I'd like to go deeper into the book a bit later in the podcast. But I'd like to ask just a follow up question. What got you interested in digestive health and also on I in Ayurveda? It's such an interesting topic.
You know, neither of it was a topic of interest to me growing up.
Wow.
I would be miles away from the subject of Ayurveda. Digestive health didn't exist in my mind as a concept. We just knew the word health. And growing up, I actually faced a lot of diseases. So I was born with epilepsy and I had it up to the age of 11. And my parents couldn't help me much because, you know, the doctors gave no answers. So my parents spent money through their nose, taking me to, you know, hospitals and doctors, you know, from one clinic to another, MRI scans and CT scans, and exposing me to so much radiation unknowingly. Right. So growing up, I had epilepsies up to the age of 11. And then my mother just changed my nutrition. She was able to repair my body and repair my illness. And then it suddenly became migraines, excruciating, painful migraines up to the age of 20, every single day. Like being in pain wasn't normal for me. Now things get more tricky. At the age of 16, I discovered a lump in my body and I thought it was cancer. I discovered a tumor and I didn't tell my parents, thinking I'm going to die any which ways in a few months. Because my best friend already at that point in time, had fibrocystic. She had adenocarcinoma, cancer of the lungs. So I assumed even I had cancer. And I just let it go for a few months. And the tumor grew out of size, out of proportion. I couldn't breathe. So we had to rush to the hospital. We had to do needle biopsies and mammograms and more radiation. Then we had to be rushed into surgery. And they discovered, you know, a tumor which was the size of my fist and three, four other tumors. A month later, I discovered another tumor after the surgery. So another year later, another surgery to remove the tumor, two surgeries down, then a deviated septum surgery, then a tonsillitis surgery. So by the age of 18, I'd undergone four surgeries. And to make it worse, I woke up during one of those surgeries. And that was trauma that I registered in my deep, subconscious mind. And it didn't leave me for years. I was so traumatized that to this day, I'm slightly claustrophobic. If someone holds my head, if I'm unable to move my head, I would get really scared. So that happened, and then I completely forgot about this whole episode. I went on to become a TV reporter, TV producer, copywriter, and ad agency. Then I was also an investment banker in New York City. And at the peak of my career, when everything was rosy pink, life was a bed of roses. I was living in expensive hotels, globetrotting business class, and rubbing shoulders with some of the most powerful businessmen and women. And I had enough money to last me, like a few years. But I just didn't feel happy, and I couldn't answer why. So I packed my bags, came back to India, took a sabbatical, indefinite sabbatical. I just kept traveling around the world. I did like 10 countries in 11 months. Came back to India as a tourist and started traveling to the countryside. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and then outskirts. I was in Paris, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Zurich, Istanbul. And the one common thing I found amongst people around the world, irrespective of the language we speak, was a pursuit of happiness and health. All of us are in the pursuit of it. And I started feeling so healthy when I was in the countryside for the first time. I slept deeply. I had chronic insomnia for 11 years. There were times when I slept only 30 minutes a day, had chronic insomnia, the fear of falling asleep. And suddenly in the countryside, I was sleeping deeply for eight hours. And I had a voracious appetite. When I woke up, I exercised in clean air, I breathed deeply, and I could eat an entire thali, which was meant for three people. And growing up as a child, I had bulimia. I didn't eat. I had very, very, very poor appetite. My parents struggle. It took two hours for them to feed me lunch, one hour for breakfast, another two hours for dinner. So five hours a day was just feeding me. And I had this voracious appetite. And I couldn't put my finger on it. I was like, I'm hungry, I'm sleeping well, I'm exercising well, I'm full of energy, and I'm constantly smiling for no reason. And that's when I discovered that my body was syncing with nature, the circadian rhythm. I found the word for it many years later, that this was what was happening. So I decided to bottle this happiness and sell it to the world and become a multimillionaire. And the closest I could come to bottling this happiness in a way that it's not a drug or a steroid or antibiotic or, you know, some kind of a pleasure drug, the closest I could come to putting that happiness in a bottle was ayurvedic herbs, which helps people get rid of diseases and prevent diseases so they can live the most powerful present moment rather than investing in insurance, waiting to get sick, waiting to get to a hospital to be plucked to a bed and a ventilator and machines to discover health. You don't have to wait for that event. You become healthy now. So that's how the clinic started. And I've had a wonderful team of doctors and therapists and biotech researchers who've assisted me throughout. So that's my journey.
What an amazing story. I mean, it's. It's the classic hero's journey where you have all these battles in your life and then at the end of it, you achieve success, but then you find this emptiness, and then finally connecting right back to nature, to the basics of food, to helping others, and then finally finding that happiness. And I can certainly see it in your face that you're vibrant, you're healthy, you're happy. If the audience are listening to the podcast, go and check out our YouTube. You'll see a vibrancy of this beautiful woman. So thank you so much for sharing that. And I'd like to follow up with this topic of Ayurveda. So people in the west might not be familiar with what Ayurveda is, so how about we simplify it and I'm certainly no expert, so I'll be completely relying on you. Dr. Dimple, what is Ayurveda?
I'm so glad you asked me that. So for the longest time, like I said, you know, I was running away from Ayurveda because I thought it's a slow science and you know, it takes too much time, I don't have the patience for it. And I remember I had to appear for an interview for a TV reporter's job. And I told my friend, I said, listen, I need to look good for this. She said, why don't you go for some Ayurvedic facials and massages for a few days? I said, I don't have six months, I have six days. Give me something that happens in six days. I'm running to the salon, to the parlor to get some facials with a lot of chemicals and stuff like that. Obviously that's not the word I use at the point in time I said some expensive facials to get my, you know, ingredients back. And I suffered with poor skin my entire teenage life, very bad skin. I had pimples and acne and bumps on my face. And you know, growing up I even developed urticaria, which is a chronic skin disease and inflammatory disease. And this happened just few years ago. So Ayurveda is something that helped me prevent my fifth surgery. And it's a science, it's called a preventive healthcare life science, rather than just a curative healthcare Science. It's a 5,000 year old science that developed in the lands of India, mainly in Kerala, and that's where they preserved it. And luckily during the colonial rule, the British didn't think it was profitable to invade Kerala because of the western guards, the hills that surrounded it was too expensive to invade it. So Kerala was able to preserve this knowledge. But a lot of the Vedic script scriptures has been destroyed during the colonial rule, 80% of it has been destroyed. We barely have 20% of it left. Ayurveda, the word itself means iu plus veda. Ayu means life. Veda means knowledge. So Ayurveda is the knowledge of life or the science of life that teaches you how to personalize your diet, your lifestyle, your food habits based on your unique body type, your genetics, the topographic conditions you live in, the seasonal and the climatic changes, and the age of your body. So it's a personalized science. No two bodies in the world are the same. There are seven unique body types that mother Nature created. Endomorph, ectomorph, mesomorph, then dual body types, endo, ecto, ectomeso or endomeso. And then you have the tridoshi body type, but you have dominant in all three, right? So there are seven unique body types. And Ayurveda states, and modern science understands one man's nutrition is another man's poison. For example, chilies, or hot, spicy, pungent foods like capsicum, onion, garlic, radish. Chilies is excellent for an endomorph body type because it stimulates a metabolic fire and aids in weight loss. But it's forbidden for a mesomorph body type that already has a high metabolic fire because it can aggravate it and lead to skin disorders. Because of high metabolic fire might end up having psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, dicaria, because your body is heated up from inside and it is burning up the skin. So one man's nutrition is another man's poison. So that's the basic of Ayurveda, that it's a personalized science. It goes deeper. It has about 10,000 herbs that it has identified, in fact, more. But we have about 10,000 herbs available to mankind right now. And it says that for every disease, there's a herb that is a cure. Our job is just to find it. Now the whole world is going on turmeric lattes. You know, they're paying about $50. You know, got some euros for a turmeric latte. But we grew up on turmeric milk, and that was a basic lifestyle. You know, if someone had a cold or a cough or a fever, they were given turmeric milk at bedtime, and by the time they woke up in the morning, the fever was gone. But that was basics that our ancestors and grandmothers practice at home. It goes deeper. We understand the science of spices, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, grated ginger, pepper, star. We understand the science of herbs, ashwagandha, shatavari, gugul, and a whole lot of it, right? So there are about 10,000 herbs that are about 6,000, you know, 650 medical formulations out of it that has been made for different diseases, right? From cancer to common cold. And There are about 1700 formulations for the colon cleanse. Because Ayurveda stress stresses on digestive health. The first step, thinning of the body. Your body must be thin. You cannot have excess fat, mucus, water retention, bloating gases accumulated in the body. You can't have inflammation in the body. Ayurveda stresses on removing all of that first. It stresses on cleaning up the gut and the colon. There should be no undigested foods or waste or heavy metals, toxins, preservatives lurking in your body for more than 24 hours. What you eat must either be expended in the form of energy and the remaining should be eliminated within 24 hours. The insoluble fiber. If they end up staying at the gut and colon, they start destroying the body. So that's where modern science and AA comes together. Both agree that 90% of the diseases are caused to an unhealthy colon. And that's where we specialize. And that's honestly a very small part of Ayurveda. Ayurveda understands pediatric health as a separate branch. Ent, yours, nose and throat fertility for men and women, gerontology, which is basically for senior citizens. Then it also understands general medicines, herbs. It understands toxicology as a separate subject. Toxicology is a separate branch for the last 5,000 years and the psychosomatic wellness as well in it. And then there is certain. Surgery was invented by Ayurveda 5000 years ago. Sushruta, the world's first surgeon, conducted complex surgeries like rhinoplasty or even helping in grafting skin for soldiers who came back from the war. If they were missing a year, he would graft skin from the cheek to build a year for them. So surgery was conducted. Cataract surgery was done about 3,000 years ago. It was discovered by Ayurvedic physicians, recorded and passed on orally to their disciples. So knowledge was passed on orally, Most of it. Some of it was recorded in Vedic scriptures, which unfortunately has been destroyed, but we've been able to hold on to at least 20%. We hope that this is the rise and the era of preventive health care rather than just looking for the cure.
Wow, I love that intro to Ayurveda. The. The question that sort of came into my mind straight away is, how do we. How do you classify these different body types? Because someone might be listening to this and it's like, oh, what type am I? I'm fascinated. What type am I? You know, like, so how do we. How do we classify different types of.
So, you know, there's a basic dosha quiz that we have on our website. If you guys would like to find out what your body type is. I'll share the link with Cribbin. It's www.pranabydimple.com. you can just go and do the dosha quiz and answer a series of questions about 15 to 25 questions that allows you to find out what your body type is. Can I take a break for a second?
Sure, yeah, yeah.
It. Apologies for that.
Oh good.
It's a single that you have to attend to the do laundry. I'll start with the answer again if that helps.
Sure.
So for those of you who would like to find out your body type, there's a basic quiz that we have on our website called www.prana by dimple.com. you can just go on ahead and do the dosha quiz. So dosha basically means building blocks or the body type in Ayurveda. You can answer a series of questions about 15 to 25 questions. It talks about what type of skin you have, what type of hair, what type of nails, what type of eyes, what type of dreams you have, what kind of an appetite you have, how are your bubble moments? How's your personality? Are you hot tempered or cool? So there's a series of questions that you can do personally. So it's a personal analysis. Right. But this is what I say to everyone, that ayurvedic body type or your, you know, modern terms of endomorph, ectomorph, mesomorph is a fixed body type that is fixed at the time of being conceived in the womb. So your body type is fixed at the time of being conceived and doesn't change an entire lifetime. So it's good to go to an Ayurvedic doctor at least once in a lifetime. They do a pulse check, they check your pulse, or they ask a lot of questions on a zoom consult and they help you identify your body type. It's like finding your blood group. You must take a little bit of a professional help if you can. But if you can't afford it at the moment because of distance or logistics or you know, money and stuff like that doesn't matter. At least do a self analysis. So I'll give you a basic understanding. Endomorph, the first body type is the thickest body type. They have thick, broad bone structure and they have good skin, good hair naturally. They have dark thick hair, so you can be blonde, but you can still have thick and deep colored hair. Right. And they have good skin, good hair, but they tend to put on weight very quickly and they struggle to lose weight. They could work out for days together in the gym and they probably, you know, shipped 500 grams on the weighing scale, half a pound maybe. Right. So that's the thickest body type. And they have a tendency towards catching a cold, cough, sinus allergies, asthma, hay, Fever, lung congestion and bronchial disorders. They tend to have a lot of symptoms in the top part of the body, the lung region between the nose and the lungs. And they also have an inclination towards heavy disorders because they are earth and water dominant body type. So they would have an inclination towards obesity, cholesterol, diabetes, excessive weight gain, tumors, fibroid cysts. That's a dominance of earth and water in the body. The second body type is mesomorph. They're a fire dominant body type. So out of the five elements, earth and water was endomorph. Mesomorph is a fire and a water dominant body type. They tend to put on weight easily and lose weight easily. Have you ever had a friend who put on 5 kgs and lose 5 kgs in a month? They fluctuate all the time. They like gained weight this month, lost weight next month. These people have a high metabolic fire and they're fire dominant. But because the fire is more dominant in the body, they display symptoms connected to the fire, like excessive sweating, discoloration of the eyes, like yellowness and redness if they're exposed to the screen. Hair fall because of excessive heat, thinning of the hair, green of the hair. Skin disorders quite easily, like pimples, acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, burning sensation in the stomach, acidity, reflux, a sensitive gallbladder and liver because the fire is dominant in the middle part of the body. And then you have the third body type, which is the ectomorph, the thinnest body type. So mesomorph is athletic, medium build. Ectomorph is the thinnest body type. They have thin bones, brittle bones, dried up skin, dried up, fizzy hair, dry colon. Inclination towards colon related disorders like constipation, diarrhea, ibs. Inclination towards bone related disorders like osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism, spondylosis, body aches, pain, excessive thinking. And they tend to be, you know, someone who's hyperactive or they palpitate very quickly. Hyperventilated, but also very creative. They are air and space dominant. So based on the elements, your personality has changed. The endomorph, which is earth and water dominant body type, is usually very compassionate, kind, empathetic. And these solid figures in your family, they're the ones you want to go give a hug because it's chubby and big. Your grandmothers are chubby and big. You want to give them a hug, you know, because for us, big and chubby exudes kindness psychologically. I think that the kindness, right. Mesomorph, which is an athletic body type, is usually the most competitive one. Ambitious public speakers, leaders, CEOs, CFOs, go getters, fire, dominant, air and space. Ectomorph. Dominant body types are the creative types. They just flow. They're dancers, they're musicians, they're writers, they're also runners and they just flow. They're also great speakers, by the way, orators. So your personality is also determined based on your body type. You. And that's how beautiful the unique body type science is. Once you found your unique body type, you can change your diet based on your body diet and you'll never get sick.
Wow. And you mentioned there's some combination types that are in between the main types.
That is always the trickiest part, let me tell you. So when you're a single body type, it's very easy. There are very strict demarcations on what foods are favorable for you and what foods are not favorable for you. There's a very clear demarcation. An endomorph does well with bitter, astringent, pungent foods and must stay away from sweet, sour, salty foods. Very clear demarcation. Mesomorph does well with sweet, bitter and astringent foods, must stay away from pungent, spicy foods, sour and salty foods. And ectomorph does well by eating the exact opposite of the endomorph. They do well by eating sweet, sour, salty foods, and must stay away from bitter, astringent, pungent foods. But if you're a dual body type, sometimes you're living in a contradiction. So say if you're a combination of an endomorph and an ectomorph, there are two extremes. Endomorph is the thickest body type, good skin, good hair. Ectomorph is the thinnest body type of thin, brittle bones, dried off skin, dried off, busy hair. So you might end up borrowing some qualities from here and some qualities from here. And he'd be like, why am I a bit of everything? Right? So endo, ecto, then it becomes a little challenging to balance because they eat the exact opposite foods. So in that case, what I say to everybody, incorporate all six days in every meal of yours. Now, when you have coffee, you're having just bitter coffee, which is not healthy, okay? You add some good fat, like almond milk or coconut milk or cow's milk, sourced from a cruelty free cow family that's free of hormones, that good fat is sweet. Then you can add some ghee, a drop of ghee. It makes it bulletproof. That coffee cleans your GI tract. So you must make sure that every meal, then you can even add some pungent spices like cinnamon, cardamom, clove, ginger, pepper, star in this to your coffee and to your teas. Every meal of yours must incorporate all the six days. So when you're having fruits, it's sweet, right? I like to add a pinch of peppercorn top. It prevents mucus cold cough when you eat a fruit or have a fruit juice, which some people have a tendency towards. So you incorporate all six days. So it could be a dual body type. That's an ectomeso, again, complicated. It's called vata pitta. In Ayurveda, you could be a combination of a meso and an endo, which is a fire, earth, water, dominant, which is called kapha and pita. Dual body types. It's a little tricky to design a diet plan, but it's not impossible. And then the last, the seventh body type is a tridosic body type where all three building blocks are dominant in your body. Earth, water, fire, airspace, all five elements are strong in your body. No two elements are more dominant than the other. And the Ayurveda is. No matter what body type you're born in, you must aim to become tri doshic in nature. You must aim to come to a state of complete, complete balance in all your five elements. And you must aim to eat based on how your body is responding on an hourly basis. So diet cannot be designed for this reason. Nobody else can design a diet for you for this reason, because somebody else is designing a diet based on the knowledge of your symptoms. But you have to eat based on how you're feeling on an hourly basis. So in the morning, if I'm feeling cold and sluggish, I start my day with warm porridge. Afternoon, if I'm feeling hot, I'll have a lemonade, which is cooling. I'll have buttermilk. I'll have the biggest meal of the day because the metabolic fires are the peak. Evening, when the sun starts setting, I'll have a smaller meal because the digestive fires also become small. So your diet changes on a daily basis based on what you're feeling in the morning, on an hourly basis based on the temperature outside. And that's why we say every household must be empowered with the science of Ayurveda or any preventive health care life science that you've grown an affinity towards so you can become the dietitian of your own body. The nutritionist for your loved ones. And you're cooking your meals on a daily basis to boost their health and prevent diseases, not just to feed the bellies and the tongue. You're feeding a body nutrition that is nourishing, that is wholesome, that is helping you build new tissues, muscles, teeth, nails and hair. That is helping you repair and rejuvenate the body on a daily basis rather than waking up shocked one day saying, hey, why did I eat so fast? That's Ayurveda.
That's amazing. That's an amazing summary of all the. The different body types. And I think the audience are gonna really dig into this, do the tests, find out what body types they are, and really get into the Ayurvedic work. A couple of questions. One is quite esoteric, so let me frame it as esoteric. But I'm starting to develop an interest in the Vedic calendars and the astrology. So are you able to explain if you do have this knowledge on what. Because you mentioned at the time of birth, a lot of these Vedic styles will look at, I think it's the moon signs at the time of birth for my understanding, and then sort of give. Give the person a little bit of information on what their body and their personalities and things might be like. So are you able to explain that a little bit?
Yeah, I'll touch on it briefly. But, you know, I'm no expert on the subject of astrology, which is a very interesting subject, by the way. Astrology is a science of understanding the position of planets and the impact they have on the human body. Right now, astrology, astronomy, Ayurveda are all interconnected. Astrology and astronomy are the closely connected sciences. Astronomy is obviously, you know, a modern approach to it. And astrology is a traditional Vedic approach to the same science. Ayurveda borrows from both now Ayurvedic doctors, medical doctors. So I'm an Ayurvedic researcher, Ayurvedic doctors. Some of them will actually ask you for your birth date, which city you were born in, before prescribing herbs to you. Because if you were born in the winter season, there are certain herbs that grew in the winter season. Nature is so clever. It grows the herbs that you need in every season. Now, say if you went to a tropical city, nature grows abundance of coconut trees and gives you tender coconut water so you don't dehydrate it. Dehydrate from that ocean heat. Okay. If you go up in the mountains, you'll find a lot of bitter herbs and pungent spicy herbs that helps you keep the body warm. If you go to the deserts, you'll find abundance of dates that keeps you hydrated and nourished from within. So nature cleverly grows the specific herb, fruit and vegetable that you need to acclimatize to that region, the topographic region and climate. So astrology, Ayurvedic doctors will ask you for your date of birth and the city you were born in before prescribing some herbs to you. Some of them do it, not all of them do it. Now, astrology also understands the impact of planets on your body. Now, on a full moon night, you'll notice that you're emotionally more unstable or emotionally more aware and conscious. Reason being, the impact of the moon on Earth's body is so huge that that the waves in the ocean rise up to almost 10 to 11ft high. We are nothing but a collection of water particles. Our body is 75% water. Our brain is 85% water. Bones are 36% water. Our nervous system is 95% water. Our eyes are 95% water. We're literally floating in water. Our eyelids, our eyeballs are floating in water. So our body is essentially a water body. And when it's a full moon, the impact of the moon is felt on our body. The water particles in our body start surfacing, ebbing and flowing. There's a surge of ebbs and flows in the body which causes the emotions and memories from your subconscious mind to surface like a wave into the conscious mind, and you suddenly become aware. Suddenly you have flashbacks of your childhood. Suddenly you have childhood memories cropping up. And that's why on a full moon night in New York City, at the hospital, the doctors are mentally prepared for the maximum number of emergencies, because some of the expert drivers suddenly have the surge of emotions and they have an accident. An expert carpenter would end up kneeling his finger because he lost his attention for a second. There's a surge of emotion. So just like how the moon impacts the human body, every single planet in this particular galaxy exudes impact on our body, which we are physically aware of. Beyond that, every single star in this universe exudes impact on the physical body. We literally a tiny speck of dirt on this planet Earth. When you see us from space, when you look at Earth from space, you can literally see just a beautiful blue dot. Blue again because it's water dominant. You don't see a brown dot, you don't see a green dot. You see a blue dot. And human beings are a tiny speck of dirt. So if the moon and the planets can impact Earth. If the sun's rays can impact Earth, why will it not impact the human body? Nayurveda goes a little deeper. It says diseases are triggered due to karmic collection from this birth and the previous births triggered by the position of the planets. So very simple thing. I experienced this in my life. Okay, so say if I keep, you know, eating ice creams at night after sunset wing, why is it unconscious? I'm consciously eating an ice cream, but it's called an unconscious activity because I'm unconscious of the impact it'll have on my body six months from now. So I keep eating an ice cream. That's my karma. Karma means action. So I'm acting on that ice cream every night at seven o' clock for six months. Seventh, eighth month, I'll probably wake up with inflamed sinusitis so chronic that I might have to go for a surgery because I can't breathe. So the disease was triggered due to a series of repeated unconscious actions which is called karma. Karma, you know, somehow has been misinterpreted by a lot of people saying that it's beyond our control. It karma doesn't control us. Karmas are action. And now this can get triggered by the position of the planet. Say example, it's winter season. Jupiter, Mars, Pluto, all of them might be having a different impact on Earth in winter versus in summer. And that's when that particular disease gets triggered in the body because of the impact of the moon, the impact of the sun, impact of Jupiter and all the planets. And that karmic collection of the body suddenly now surf us up in the form of a disease. That's my understanding of astrological impact on health and disease. Of course it goes deeper. This is just a surplus.
That's amazing. I love that, that summary. I think there's so much we don't understand about this, this life, this, this realm, the impact of planets, the sun, the moon. And I think to just put in that basket of, you know, woo woo is a little bit unfair. And that's why I keep my mind very open, even being a scientist, to be open that I don't understand everything and just having that burning want to learn more about these, these esoteric topics. So thank you so much for sharing that. Just, just one more question before we wrap this and then I've got to jump off and jump back on because Zoom's going to kick us out in a second. But I'll send the link. So how about the seasons? Just in a very quick Summary, how do the seasons relate to Ayurveda?
So every season our diet has to change. That's what Ayurveda says you must eat based on your season. Eat local, eat seasonal, live global, eat local. Because when you have the local fruits and vegetables, you're ingesting the local bacteria, which allows you to acclimatize to that particular topographic region and you don't get sick. So if you're allergic to a specific pollen grain, you must eat the honey collected from that pollen grain by the bees so that you can acclimatize to that pollen grain. You introduce it into your body, so your body accepts it as food and realizes this is not an allergy. Seasonal foods. Now, during the summer season, we have watermelon. It hydrates us, right? During winter season, we'll have a different fruit. During autumn, we'll have pumpkins. Because pumpkins is rich in moisture, it helps us counteract the dryness from the autumn season and prevents our skin from becoming dry like a leaf. So every food seasonally allows you to.
Dr. Dimple, thank you so much for summarizing the importance of seasonality and the concepts of Ayurveda. I think that'll be so useful to the listeners. We'll move on to the next question. Burning question, actually. So how does Ayurveda and gut health relate to each other? Because you mentioned earlier, it's a really foundational aspect of Ayurveda. So how about we jump a little bit deeper into gut health and Ayurveda and the principles involved.
It's actually a very close relationship I think Ayurveda and modern science have. When it comes to gut health, Ayurveda talks about agni. Agni is fire. It's called jatran agni. In Ayurveda, it's not just fire, it's a digestive fire. It's the metabolic fire in your body that keeps you alive. If your body is zero degrees, you're as good as tent. Right? We're about 95 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit at any point in time, right? A warm body is a sign of life. A cold body is dead. Now, where does a warmth come from? The body has a digestive fire, a metabolic fire that helps in digesting food, transforming that food into digestive juice and transforming that digestive juice into plasma, blood, bone, bone marrow, muscles, odipus, sperm, egg, the various tissues that we see, which are the byproducts like muscles, skin, teeth, nails and hair. Right? So this digestive fire, this metabolic fire, keeps you Alive. It's also called the transformative fire that allows you to transform the food you've eaten into various body parts, right? So you eat a banana today. Within a few hours, that banana has already become integral part of your entire human body. You can't separate the banana from the human body anymore. It's become part of the blood, it's become part of the tissues, it's become part of the organs because it goes in the form of nutrients, and each organ takes the nutrients to rejuvenate itself. So the liver can generate new liver cells, the gallbladder can generate new gallbladder cells. How intelligent is the body that from the same nutrients we're not just feeding the organs, but allowing the organs to generate new cells of its own kind. So the liver can completely regenerate itself Every four years. Every four years you have a brand new liver, okay? Every one and a half years, you have brand new skin. Your skin is completely fallen off. Not overnight like a snake. It falls off on a daily basis. You lose a bit of your, you know, surface level. Dead skin cells on a daily basis, when you take a shower, when you clean up on a daily basis, your skin is shedding. You can't see it with a naked eye. In one and a half years, you have brand new skin. So that has come from the nutrients you've eaten, which has been digested, absorbed and assimilated due to the presence of digestive fire or the Jatrin Agni. And then you have the metabolic fire. The metabolic fire are seven different kinds. This one metabolic fire that basically transform the digestive juices into plasma. There's a second kind of a metabolic fire that transforms a purified plasma into blood. There's a third kind of a digestive metabolic fire that transforms a purified part of plasma into muscles and the byproduct of skin. Then there's a fourth metabolic fire that transforms a purified part of the muscle into Oedipus, which is good fat, okay? And every part of the body has fat, right? From your eyes, nose, ears, mouth. Without fat, they cannot sustain odiposis, a good fat and the lubricants. Every liquid substance in your body is odipus, the mucus, the water, the fluids, right? The purified part of Oedipus is converted through another metabolic fire, which has an Ayurvedic name, converted into bone. The purified part of the bone, which has a byproduct of teeth and nails, is converted into bone marrow. And the byproduct is a nervous system. The most Delicate part of the body, bone marrow, nervous system comes in the sixth stage. Then the purified part of the bone marrow is converted through another metabolic fire into sperm, eggs and the reproductive organs. So the almonds that you've eaten today takes at least 27 to 28 days for it to reach the reproductive organs. So if you think you've eaten almonds today, you'll become strong tomorrow. That's not how it is. It takes at least 2014 to 28 days for the food you've eaten today to reach the last cell and tissue of the body. So that's why when we do a diet plan, we say do it for at least 28 days to see some result. We say 90 days so that it becomes a habit. You know, Howard says it takes 66 days to. For it to become a habit, not 21, 66, that it becomes such a habit that it's impossible for you not to do it. It's easier for you to do it than not do it. So you do it at least. Now, Ayurveda says that this digestive fire is obviously in the gut, in the stomach, in the small intestine, in the large intestine. It helps in digesting food, absorbing and assimilating nutrients, the metabolic fires throughout your body. That's transforming all the digestive juices and the nutrients into various tissues that we see in the physical gross body. Right? What we see is the final output. Now, the gut is the source of life. The gut is the fuel engine for the whole body. If the gut stops functioning, the brain, heart, liver, kidney, intestine will not have supply of nutrients. They will also fade with time and dry. Of course, you know, some people do fasting for about 60 days, 90 days, 100, 200 days without food, they have mastered absorbing nutrients from just water. Okay, so that's a different stage. We will get to that when we come to that, when we talk about sages and monks. Now, this digestive fire in the gut is very critical, integral for you to be alive. Modern science says Ayurveda said it in different language. Modern science says it even more clearly. Now, the gut is called the second brain because it's got more neurosis lining its walls. And there are neuros, neurons in the brain. What are neurons? They allow you to sense, they love you to feel, they allow you to experience. Right now we consume information through the five senses, but our emotions are practically experienced in the gut. When you feel anxious, scared, excited, nervous, butterflies fluttering in the stomach, you feel it in the gut first, okay? Memories are also stored in the gut. When you remember your grandmother, you suddenly start salivating. Not because your grandmother was yummy, but you start remembering the foods she used to feed you. The pickles, the lassi, the milkshakes, the home cooked foods. Now your gut is responding to that trigger of memory by reminding you how you felt in the presence of your grandmother. The smell. Some people even remember the distinct smell of the grandmother's skin. It's a very distinct smell because they used home products. You remember the smell, you remember the sight, you remember the taste of the food. You remember how your gut felt when you were around your grandmother. It felt relaxed, it felt happy, okay? When you see a roller coaster, you already feel butterflies fluttering. Because the gut has a memory of your previous roller coaster, right? And says, hey, the last time you went on a roller coaster, right, the gut was haywire. We were thrown off our track, right? Now the gut also has emotions, memories and intuition. Intuition comes from gut. This was said in modern science, proven in Ayurveda, experienced by the sages and monks through spiritual retreats. When they retreated spiritually and ate less only during the daytime, two meals a day, or just one meal a day, they were giving the digestive health complete break and rest. When the digestive health is in a complete break and a rest, during fasting, intermittent fasting or 24 fasting, the gut is now available for the thought process. Because gut is directly connected to the brain through neurosis that sends messages every micro million seconds. When it's busy digesting food, it is only communicating to the brain how to digest, how to digest. The brain is communicating what digestive juices to make. The gut is communicating back if it's happy, if it's unhappy, if it's comfortable, uncomfortable. So when you feel bloated, or when you're gassy, or you have flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, I. The gut is sending distress signals to the brain and the brain is unable to focus at work. The brain is constantly listening to its partner. The gut and the brain are in a marital relationship and they communicate every micro million second. So when the gut is in a digestive break, when it's got a complete break from digesting, eating, absorbing, assimilating, it starts helping the brain make intuitive decisions. The decisions come from the gut. That's why stay hungry if you want to become successful. Because the gut then comes up with ideas for the brain. Obviously, the gut is not ideating, but the gut has intuition, it guides you. So it's like a GPS system that Mother Nature's installed inside of you to keep you alive. So when you look at fire, you don't touch fire. Because the gut says, hey, this can burn you. This can scald you, okay? You don't need modern science to come and explain to you, hey, listen, don't touch fire. Even the tribes in the jungles who've not been exposed to modern science are able to survive perfectly well and even better than us. Why? Because they listen to the gut. They listen to nature. The gut is connected to nature. Now, the gut is also where digestion, absorption, assimilation happens. The gut has 1 trillion plus bacteria in it. 85 good and 15 bad bacteria is an acceptable ratio. Now, the bad bacteria gives you bad cravings. The bad bacteria loves bad foods like pizzas and burgers and breads, which rots and petrifies and gets stuck in the system for days together because that allows the bad bacteria to multiply and feed on it. The good bacteria craves good foods. It'll suddenly crave bitter food, like a bitter God. It'll suddenly crave an Ashgar juice. It'll suddenly crave carrot and beetroot. It'll suddenly crave, you know, like how children crave. So you have to invest in your good bacteria by eating good food so that the good bacteria can again guide your cravings, guide your intuition. Right? Now this is where modern science and Ayurveda comes together. Now, Ayurveda says we must keep our gut clean. We must eliminate toxins on a daily basis. There should be no constipation, no diarrhea, ibs, that's the first rule. Modern science says the colon is literally the 90% controller of health. An unhealthy colon is a trigger of 90% of the diseases, right? From psychosomatic imbalance to neurological disorders, skin diseases, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, gynecological disorders, and all the way up to clinical depression. So modern science says, and Ayurveda says that you must first eliminate toxins from your body and keep the colon healthy. Then modern science and Ayurveda says your digestive fire must be kept healthy and your good bacteria must be enhanced and your bad bacteria must be kept under control. Both sciences agree that you must give your digestive health break by doing intermittent fasting, fruit fasting, water fasting, and you must consume good amount of prebiotics and probiotics, which is available in nature. Prebiotics are your fruits loaded with good bacteria and enzymes. Probiotics are your buttermilk, your kombuchas your kefirs, your pickles, which our grandmothers and ancestors have mastered over the many years. Modern science validates their effort. Now what modern science is great at is research is evidence based science. What Ayurveda is good at is preserving and helping us plug back into nature. So when these two sciences come together, preventive and curative healthcare, life science, traditional sciences and research based science, we can preserve our health and save humanity.
Wow, I love that summary. It's so, it's so apt what he said about the, how important the gut actually is to the body. And it's so pleasing to see that Ayurveda has captured that historically. And even so in, in that research, how do they talk about, I should say the oral traditions or the written traditions? What do they say about bacteria? How do they talk about that? Is there any clues?
So you know, Ayurveda obviously speaks in a regional language. Naturopathy speaks in its own language, Homeopathy speaks in its own language. They're all preventive healthcare, life sciences. What my understanding has been, because I use English to interpret what has been written in Ayurveda and I obviously use modern terminologies which modern science has given us to explain what has been written. Ayurveda says that the herbs, the spices that we eat are all different forms of bacteria.
Oh wow.
They all have different kinds of. Right. Your fruits has a different kind of bacteria and fruit enzymes and fruit acids. Your vegetables have different kinds of enzymes and fiber. Your grains and pulses have different kinds of chemicals and fibers. When I say chemicals, it's not the chemicals that is made in a factory or an industry. Everything in this universe is made of chemical components. Components, right. Organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals. Organic chemicals are the ones that we can ingest, we can consume, we can digest and absorb and assimilate like fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, pulses, nuts and seeds. So we're on a daily basis consuming bacteria. That's why Ayurveda stresses on eating seasonal foods and eating local foods and not consuming anything that has been imported from another country. Country. Now, with the advent of technology and being able to fly around and, you know, sail around the world, we have now started eating a lot of imported foods, which is confusing our gut. Now, I'm living in a tropical country. Tender coconut water is natural to me. Frozen foods is unnatural to my body in a tropical country. Now, if you're living in a country where foods are not grown throughout the year, you freeze your fruits and vegetables, you defrost them and eat them. Now this was A technique that even our ancestors followed. During harsh winters, they would take a combination of clay and grass and make a mold and preserve the fruits inside the mold. It would be completely sealed in the Arabic countries. Even today in Israel and other Middle Eastern countries, to this day, they still follow this technique. They can take grapes and put it inside this cauldron, which is literally like flattened clay and grass made into a flattened pouch. The grapes are inserted inside and it is sealed. And even after a year, when you open that mold, you can still eat fresh grapes, right? So if you're eating frozen in a country where there's no tropical vegetation, fair enough. But you eat fruits and vegetables that are native to your country, so you're ingesting the local bacteria to enhance your gut bacteria. Now, Ayurveda has a series of prebiotics and probiotics depending on your body type. We start our day with 200ml of warm water and some lemon. If you're an endomorph body type, lemon has its own different kind of bacteria, which is acidic. It helps in dissolving fat. It helps in dissolving undigested foods. If you're someone who's very dry, you can start your day with ghee, which has butyric acid, which has good bacteria again, right? And then you can have a bowl of fruits, or stewed fruits, raw fruits, up to you. Again, you're ingesting bacteria. These are prebiotics, bacteria. Your cooked food may not have bacteria alive because you've cooked it, but what the cooked food does is it quickly goes to the digestive system, gets absorbed and assimilated in the form of nutrients much faster than raw vegetables, okay? And then you have your probiotics. Your probiotics are your buttermilk, excellent source of bacteria. Fermented yogurt, excellent source of bacteria. Fermented coconut yogurt. Dairy based yogurt. Pickles. You can pickle any vegetable. You can use vinegar. You can use, you know, a natural lemon to pickle your vegetables. You have your kombuchas and kimchis and sarkats. So we have a series of fermented foods even in Ayurveda. In fact, honey is also fermented over days by keeping it in a bottle. The older the honey, the more healthier it is. Ayurvedic herbs are converted into kashayams and asworms. And you know, these are different categories of medicines. These medicines are also slowly fermenting inside. And in fact, there's one medicine that has been banged by The Indian government, which I absolutely loved. And I realized much later why I loved it. It's called Draksha rishtum. It's made from fermented grapes. And because of its fermentation, the alcohol content in it goes up dramatically within a few days. So it was actually considered a form of alcohol rather than a medicine. And that medicine was excellent for cold, cough and sinus and allergies. Which is why we feel a little drugged and heavy when we have a cold medicine. Right, because it has some moment of alcohol in it. That fermentation process has gone a bit too far. People have started consuming alcohol. Now that is unhealthy bacteria. So this is how you understand good bacteria, bad bacteria. Now if you have like, you know, breads, excessively fermented breads, that has a long shelf life, unfortunately it becomes bad bacteria if you're having fresh sourdough bread made in the morning, healthy. But if it has a long shelf life of seven days, 10 days, that becomes bad bacteria. Because now they're fermenting, they're rotting, they're petrifying, they're releasing carbon dioxide and methane and other gases. They're becoming smelly, eating rotten food. So this is a concept of bacteria in Ayurveda. And by the way, we introduce good bacteria through the colon through a treatment called matrabasti by introducing medicated herbal oil decoctions. If someone's digestive health is weak or the gut health is weak, or there are toxins sitting inside, then we introduce good bacteria in the form of medicines into the body.
That's like an enema, similar to an enema in the west, like an enema.
But you don't flush out immediately. The medicine is retained in the colon for anywhere between 1 to 12 hours. So the body can absorb the bacteria, the herbs, medicinal properties. And then when you have a natural earth, the body releases the waste along with the oil, but it has absorbed the herbs out of it.
That's amazing. I'm really conscious of your time because you've been so generous. I think we could speak for for hours and hours in Ayurveda. I mean, actually learning so much. It's a fascinating topic, but we better move on to the next. The next question that I have is how is Ayurveda used as a vehicle to address things like, or very common gut ailments in the west, like for instance, constipation, diarrhea, sibo candida, There might be some others that you can think about. So how do you use these concepts to tackle these problems.
So, you know, now gut health issues has become very rampant. And that, by the way, goes hand in hand and much due credit to the food packaging industry. I would give all credit to the food packaging industry for the gut health issues that we're facing now. Now, food industry and pharma industry have grown hand in hand. The more you consume packaged foods, the weaker your gut health, the worse your bad bacteria and then your dependency on drugs, steroids and antibiotics to recover from it. Right? Food industry profits from your addiction to their foods. They don't care about health. They profit from your addiction to their foods. 95. Now there's a, you know, sudden growth of organic conscious manufacturers who growing organic foods. You know, much, much credit to them and kudos to them. Pharma industry profits from your disease, not from health. They can only profit when you're diseased and sick. So what you need to understand is the bacteria has to be preserved, the good bacteria, right? And what Ayurveda does is it gives you a series of remedies, preventive healthcare remedies. Now you start your day with say warm water ghee or warm water lemon to enhance your good bacteria and to get rid of bad bacteria. Then you have a bowl of fruits to enhance your good bacteria. You have a bowl of sauteed vegetables versus raw vegetables. AA doesn't recommend raw foods because raw foods is also home to parasites, bacteria and tapeworms, tapeworm eggs. If they enter the body, they can cause a series of chronic diseases. So the first thing I tell people who are, you know, suffering from H P or candida or sibo, which is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, are like, stay away from raw foods because you don't want to ingest more bacteria. Have sauteed vegetables instead and allow the body to decide what is bad bacteria and eliminate it through the colon and through the feces, through the urine. Ayurveda then gives a series of oral medication herbs which helps in killing the unhealthy bacteria. Simple example, bitter God is given to diabetic patients to kill the sugar level in the blood, to make it bitter and to allow the pancreas to function. Neem, which is the herb, the most common herb available in the tropical regions of the Indian subcontinent, has been given to children during the summer season to help boost their immunity against chickenpox, smallpox, which was a deadly disease back then. It also helps in purifying the blood, detoxifying the body, and cleaning up the skin of pimples and acne. Because of the bitterness, Neem basically kills all kinds of parasitical worms inside the body. Then you have a series of other spices like turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, grated ginger, pepper, star in this that are anti inflammatory. We have about 10,000 specialized herbs that helps in purifying the body from within. So that helps in getting rid of the bad bacteria and enhancing the good bacteria and strengthening it. Then we also introduce medicines through the skin, through the colon, through the nose, through the eyes, mouth and ears. How? Through the skin, we introduce medicated oils. We help in massaging the body. These medicated oils seek through the pores. Our skin is extremely porous. It absorbs and assimilates everything that we apply on it that helps in purifying the skin from underneath it, at least the top few layers. And some of it can actually seep through the pores into the bloodstream faster than the food that you eat. Then we introduce medicines through the nose, through nose drops. We introduce medicines through the years to clean up the years. We also introduce medicine into the eyes, eye drops and nitra tarpanam. We have oral medication and we introduce medicines through the columns to flush out parasite worms, undigested food, heavy metals, toxins, and most importantly, the bad bacteria that the body has decided to release. You can't segregate it yourself. You have to allow the body to decide what to eliminate and what to keep. So that's where Ayurveda plays a role in helping manage the gut flora.
Wow, that's fascinating. That's so interesting and counterintuitive in many ways as well. The other, the other question I have to follow up is I think, you know, there's a whole gamut of gut issues that we could focus on, but I thought we'd also include something that's not gut related. Someone like myself who's struggling with a little bit, with a, a bit of sinusitis and a chesty cough. So it's, I'm being a little bit selfish, but how, how would you deal with something like that? So I've got mucus production in my throat, sinuses blocked up, particularly at night. How would Ayurveda deal with this?
I'm going to give you two quick remedies and you're going to do it today, right after a podcast recording. And the next three to five days, you're going to be as good as new and you're going to tell me about it. Okay?
Wow.
So number one, in the morning you're going to take a face steamer. A face steamer can be an electric one or you can just take a bowl of hot water. Be very careful not to to burn yourself. You take a face steamer, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oil is called Nilgiri tail in Hindi. It is anti inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic as well. It helps in curing cold, cough, sinus and fever symptoms as well and lowers blood pressure if you have high bp. You just put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in your face steamer, cover your head with a towel, inhale and exhale for at least 5 to 10 minutes and allow the eucalyptus oil to enter your lungs and open up your sinus passages. You'll notice that your sinus is opening up. The mucus is dripping out of the nose and into the throat as well sometimes, so you need to immediately cop out everything. Cleanse it. Do not swallow the mucus because this is loaded with unhealthy bacteria and you don't want that, right? It also probably has some kind of viruses in it which is causing the sinuses to get inflamed anymore. And then you gargle your throat with warm water, a pinch of turmeric and some salt to cleanse your throat of any kind of parasite that might have drained into the throat. You cleanse your mouth and you sip warm water throughout the day. When you sip warm water, it constantly increases body heat and improves heat in the mouth, nose region and constantly keeps the sinuses warm so that it doesn't become cold and blocked. And then you will also take 1 teaspoon of raw organic honey sourced from your topographic region. You'll add to this half teaspoon of grated ginger. Now, honey liquefies mucus. Honey is the only thing that can cause the mucus to break and drain out of your body. You'll add half teaspoon grated ginger, which is anti, inflammatory and heaty and potent. And then you'll add a pinch of turmeric, a pinch of pepper, a pinch of cinnamon to this and you'll have this concoction drop. Do not mix it in hot water or milk. Honey turns toxic when you mix it in hot substances. You take this concoction twice a day if you want morning and at bedtime again. At bedtime you will massage your face with some cream and then steam with a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Then cough out and then cleanse your throat with warm water, turmeric, salt and then have one teaspoon of honey, ginger, pepper, turmeric. Always sip warm water throughout the day. In three days you'll Be as good as new without having to take medication.
Wow. I'm going to try that out and I'll send you an email on how I went. But I think the, the audience would really appreciate it because we're kind of towards the end of winter into spring, but I think there's a lot of coughs and colds and stuff going about. So I think the audience would really appreciate that advice. I'm going to try to One follow up question. Is it better to do the steaming in the morning or is it okay to do it at night as well?
You should do it actually both the times if you're suffering from chronic sinuses. So the reason why we do it in the morning is because when you're sleeping at night for eight hours, your body temperature drops. Your body also sometimes ends up collecting more mucus at night. So when you wake up in the morning, you always wake up with a little cold or a cough and you feel like, you know, spitting out all the cough that's accumulated, the fellum that's accumulated in the chest region. Right in the morning when you wake up and steam, it's great because morning 6am to 10am is called the kapha clock. In Ayurveda. It's the energy clock that says that 6am to 10am Earth and Water is more dominant in nature and does in our human body, earth and water sluggish. It is responsible for that heaviness and mucus. 10am to 2pm is when the sun is at the peak. Fire becomes dominant in nature. Fire becomes dominant in our body and we don't experience that much cold and cough. In the middle of the day, we notice some amount of relief because our body heat has gone up and it has started liquefying the mucus. Now bedtime, 6pm to 10pm the energy clock is again kapha, earth and water dominant. So the body starts cooling down just like nature. And that heaviness allows you to fall asleep. But for some people who are sick, that heaviness can also lead to accumulation of mucus, cold, cough, and heaviness of the chest. So do it early morning hours and late in the evening, at night, not in the middle of the day. You might end up burning your skin in the middle of the day because of excess heat. Outside the body, inside the body, and now in your steamer.
I see that. That's, that's amazing, Dr. Dimple. Even, even that quick summary of how the, how the body works on a daily basis with all these different periods of time where certain elements are more Active like fire in the middle of the day, the sluggishness in the morning and the night. And I think anyone can relate to that. So that, that's absolutely brilliant. I think I've taken enough of your time. I really appreciate it. I think we'll start to wrap at this point. Firstly, you mentioned your book a bit earlier on. How about you, you give us a little bit of a primer on what to expect with this brilliant book that's coming out.
So this book is everything that I wanted to share with you guys about my journey from sickness to health, from surgeries to becoming surgery free. Finally, I was able to avoid my fifth surgery. My dad was able to to avoid a gallbladder surgery, you know, by just dissolving the stones with Ayurvedic remedies and herbs and spices and medicines. Of course. This book focuses on gut health and how it impacts your mental and emotional health. It gives you a detailed understanding on that. Then it dives deep onto the basics of Ayurveda and how we can borrow from it to enhance our gut health. So it is a five step process to resetting your gut back to good health. We speak about the circadian rhythm, which is the energy clock. Understanding what to eat, which time of the day, what activity to perform, which time of the day, what is the best time to sleep, when is the body detoxifying, when is the colon most active, when is the digestive fire most active? If you know the energy clock of your body and mother Nature, you can actually reverse a lot of symptoms in your body. Number two, we speak of the food pyramid, which groups of foods that you must eat more of and less of. Then it speaks about the digestion period of different foods. So different food. Foods digest differently in the body. Like fruits digest very quickly. Meat will take the longest time to digest in the body. Then we also talk about lifestyle changing habits, how to eat your food with your fingers, what kind of attention you must give, when should you drink water, when should you avoid drinking water? And we speak about the most important subject that I specialize in, which is called food chemistry or va. Vi means wrong, conflicting Ahar means food. It speaks about the right and the wrong combinations of foods that are either feeding your disease or your health. For example, something as simple as grapes and milk is so toxic when they come together in the tummy, it can instantly kill an infant.
Oh my God, it can kill.
Grape milkshake is probably the most poisonous thing in the world. It doesn't exist. But if you had a bowl of Grapes and you had a glass of milk right after. You will get sick within a few hours. So we speak about the combinations of foods that you must be very conscious of, which has unfortunately given rise to skin diseases. You've seen a rise in skin diseases like psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, urticaria, bittenigo, alopecia because of the wrong combinations of foods that we've been fed by the food packaging industry and that we're making at home nowadays. So that's the specialty or you know, the area of specialization rather for me in terms of research that I've spent last six years on trying to find answers to. Why do we have this disease?
Wow. I'm 100% going to get a copy. I'm assuming it's going to be on Amazon at some point.

Right. I'm so excited and I love to end my show with this question. If there's one thing that you could do for your gut health today, what would it be?
Fasting. The best thing you can do for your gut is give it rest. It has been working non stop since you were born. Please give it some rest. The liver, which is the largest detoxifying organ in your body, will thank you that it can finally focus on its main job, which is detoxification, not just digestion. So give Your body break 12 hours 14 hours 162472 hours. If you can master it, the best thing you can do is fasting. And in fact the religious season, you know, for the Jains is approaching next week where we will not be eating any kinds of fruits or vegetables for eight days. We will not eat food after sunset. We will not eat food until nine in the morning. We will also fast on some days with just plain boiled water. That is eight days of resetting my gut and my mental emotional spiritual health back to its best form of health.
Wow. Love that. Thank you so much Dr. Dimple.
