Dr. Mark Hyman lists five health and kitchen purchases worth their cost: a Vitamix blender for daily smoothies, a Made In chef's knife, a cast-iron skillet he's owned nearly 50 years, resistance bands for travel workouts, and a Function Health membership at roughly a dollar a day that includes over 160 lab tests and personalized health guidance.

5 things that I use that are totally 100% worth the money. First is a high-power blender. I went through so many blenders, you can't even believe it, until I bought a Vitamix. It is expensive, but it is worth it and it lasts forever. It's like a lawnmower on your kitchen counter. I use it every day to make a protein smoothie, to put greens in there, healthy fats. It helps you hit all the nutrient density without eating a salad the size of your head. I love my Vitamix. The next thing is a real chef's knife. If you have a body, you have to know how to cook, and it's important to know how to cook, and you need the right tools. And a good knife, just even one good knife, will last a lifetime. I use the brand Made In, but there's a lot of good ones out there. The next one, and this sounds kind of weird, is a cast iron pan. I've had mine for, gosh, almost 50 years. I found it in an old commune in the '70s. I still have the same pan, believe it or not, and it's amazing, and it doesn't change even after 50 years. There's no weird coatings, there's no crap on it, it heats evenly, it'll outlive you. My next thing that I think is so worth the money is a set of bands for travel and working out. If you can't work out, if you're traveling or if you're busy, there's no excuse. I've used bands for years. I do go to the gym, I use weights. If you can afford a personal trainer, great, do it. But a set of bands is amazing if you learn some simple routines and simple strength training techniques. It's not that hard and it's amazing. And the last one, which is totally worth the money, is a Function Health membership, which basically is less than a cup of coffee a day. It works out to be a dollar a day, which is not much for your health, cheaper than a cup of coffee. You get over 160 lab tests, you get a full diagnostic assessment of what's going on with your health, you get a deep dive all supported by intelligence behind it that tells you exactly what's going on and what to do about it. And it's stuff that your doctor's not checking. It's stuff that's going to tell you why you might not feel well and also what your risks are for future. So definitely Function Health Membership is on my top of my list of my 5 things that are totally 100% worth the money.
