This is a YouTube video titled "Can This Solve Addiction? #shorts" containing a discussion between two speakers about addiction therapy, comparing traditional medication approaches with psilocybin treatment and highlighting the societal costs of mental illness. The content is from November 16, 2023.
You take a medicine that you would prescribe as a physician for, let's say, tobacco cessation. In my patient case, they're doing it every two, three years and still not quitting their tobacco. Whereas the psilocybin, we're looking at two or three sessions, still a success rate close to 70% two years later. These kind of numbers.
We don't see in addiction therapy. No, success rates are, you know, in the low, you know, double digits, like 10, 20%, if that. And the same thing with, you know, food addiction, with depression, so much of the psychiatric problems people have. And yet, and PTSD, you know, these are things that debilitate society that cost enormous amounts of money. And it was estimated that it was going to cost society 95 trillion dollars over the next 35 years. It's enormous amount of money. I was like, almost three and a half trillion dollars a year. A lot of that was the indirect costs of mental illness on society.
