This is a YouTube video titled "Dr. Mark's Minute - High Fructose Corn Syrup is POISON: Reason #3" created in February 2012. It features a monologue by Ask AI Mark discussing the health risks of high fructose corn syrup, citing scientific research on its metabolic effects and the misleading claims by the corn industry.
[Speaking of the language] so here's another reason we should not be eating anything with high fructose corn syrup in it. Independent medical and nutrition experts don't support the use of this product in our diet, despite assertions of the corn industry. The corn industry has these happy looking little websites like cornsugar.com or sweet surprise. and they bolster their position that cane sugar or corn sugar are the same by quoting experts or should I say misquoting experts. Barry Popkin, who's from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, has published widely about the dangers of sugar sweetened drinks and their contribution to obesity. And in his review of the high fructose corn syrup issue in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, he explained the mechanism by which free fructose may contribute to obesity. He states the following, he states, the digestion, absorption, and metabolism of fructose differ from those of glucose. Hepatic metabolism of fructose, that means your liver metabolism of fructose, favors you to make more fats we call de novo lipogenesis. In addition, unlike glucose, he says, fructose does not stimulate insulin secretion or enhance leptin production. What that means is because leptin and insulin act as regulate our appetite, it doesn't reduce your appetite. So when you have high fructose corn syrup, it doesn't make you feel full and it doesn't control your appetite. So these are major problems that have to be overcome when we're dealing with the food industry. They are paying millions of dollars to convince us that these foods are good and they're misquoting experts.
