This is a YouTube video titled "Dr. Mark's Minute - How Our Beliefs Make Us Fat" containing a monologue by Ask AI Mark from February 16, 2012. The content explains the concept of stress, differentiating between acute and chronic stress, and discusses how attitudes and beliefs influence the impact of stress on health, particularly relating to obesity and diabetes.
[Finished] so what is stress? Well, stress is defined as a real or an imagined threat to your body or your ego. Now, we'll always have intermittent acute stressors that can't be avoided. But it's not the acute stress that comes and goes that causes problems with your health. What has such a dramatic impact on obesity and diabetes, what I call diabetes, as well as so many other chronic illnesses is the unremitting chronic stress that's created in part by your attitude towards that stress. Now, do you believe that things are going to work out in the end, or do you see the glass as half empty, or do you see it as half full? Do you think the world is a safe place or a dangerous place? The effect of stress are shaped by our thoughts, our attitudes, our beliefs. We can change what we think, and we can change what we believe, and we can reduce the impact of the daily stress on our lives as a result. You shouldn't believe every stupid thought you have.
