Dr. Mark explains why normal blood sugar can hide pre-diabetes. High insulin levels and metabolic problems often go undetected because doctors only check glucose, missing the real problem that needs treatment.
[Finished] Could you have pre-diabetes or diabetes with a normal blood sugar? Well, many of my patients have perfectly normal blood sugars, but sky high insulin levels and every other metabolic breakdown that goes with pre-diabetes. Yet when they come to see me, most have not been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Even with limited conventional approaches of diagnosing prediabetes as a blood sugar over 100 and a two-hour glucose tolerance test over 140, 90% of people who currently have the condition are not even diagnosed. That's because doctors don't measure insulin. Think about it for a minute. The most common chronic disease in America, the country with the best healthcare in the world, is not diagnosing 90% of people who have this problem. We need to focus on treating and diagnosing the right problem, which is pre-diabetes. And by checking your insulin and your blood sugar, you can do that.
