Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a UK cardiologist, argues statins are overprescribed and questions whether LDL cholesterol actually causes heart disease. He points to statin side effects like muscle pain and brain fog, notes that higher LDL in older adults correlates with lower mortality, and says commercial interests have distorted the science.
At least 50% of patients prescribed statins say they felt they got side effects. Muscle fatigue, muscle pain, brain fog, erectile dysfunction. If you're over 60, the higher LDL, the less likely you are to die. So what's the reasoning for that?
Dr. Aseem Malhotra is a UK based cardiologist and leading advocate for lifestyle driven heart health. Known for challenging conventional cardiovascular care and opposing the widespread use of statins.
You can't make America healthy again until you remove commercial distortions of the scientific evidence. Unless that is addressed head on, we're not going anywhere. I lost my NHS job because of that newspaper article. The overall net effect of the way that statins are prescribed and the dogma around them has been one of the main reasons why we have got this pandemic of chronic disease. They predicted the end of heart disease may completely end by the early 2000s. Didn't happen. And I'm saying that means that LDL isn't really a risk factor of heart disease. And I believe with everything I know now, that to be the case, we're all going to die at some point. What? We want to live our lives in the best health we can for as long as possible.
