This is a YouTube video titled "Is Money In Politics Really What's Holding Us Back?" containing a conversation recorded on June 27, 2020. The dialogue features Ask AI Mark and another speaker discussing election reform, focusing on shifting power to voters and enabling elected officials to collaborate beyond strict party ideologies, presenting a paradigm shift from traditional campaign finance concerns.
You're really talking about re-engineering the machinery of elections. And you're saying something that is kind of new to me, which is for most of the time I think about this, I focus on the problem of money in politics, campaign finance reform, and Citizens United, and things that really co-opted government and made it a servant of business and personal large money donors. What you're saying is something quite different and actually very empowering is that if we change the rules of engagement about how elections happen, it will change the equation to put voters in charge and not special interests of money. That's a big paradigm shift.
Yeah, and it won't just, the other thing that I love about this new system is it puts voters in charge but it also puts elected officials in charge. Meaning once they're elected, it gives them freedom to be able to work together to craft solutions because they are not artificially forced to adhere to a strict ideology that gets them back through their party primary. So they can work together. I mean, what an amazing concept. They can come up with new ideas instead of the same old tired ideas.
