'Cause all of us, you don't want to be happy, you want to be a peace, you want to meet the world in a loving way. But there's so much always in the way, and then we kind of live in a world of fear and of disconnection.
Well, first of all, trauma, that's a different category. You can't say to an animal, just meditate on it. It doesn't work that way. But the wounds, that's different. The first thing that is really useful is to give up the idea of changing it through willpower. that means dropping self-aggression. In the Buddhist view, there are three ways to work with very painful emotions. So the first one, and the one we mostly hear in spiritual circles, is pacify it. Let go. Pacify afflictive emotions. Occasionally, you know, it's not, if you could do it, it would be great. So it's good advice. The second, if you find a way to meet it, it becomes a bridge of compassion between you and others. And then the third way, make room for it. Expand to include it. Make friends with it. Experience gentleness toward your sorrows, your fears.
