A short YouTube clip (Dr. Nicole Cain) listing three medicine-cabinet essentials she keeps: theanine (calming amino acid for relaxation), phosphatidylserine (used for sleep, brain support, and to lower cortisol/stress), and vitamin D (important for mood, brain health, and inflammation—especially important during winter or with limited sun exposure).

Hey, Dr. Kane, if I was to look in your medicine cabinet, what are some essentials you keep there? What would you see in my medicine cabinet? Well, you would for sure see a ton of theanine. Theanine is an amino acid that helps calm the nervous system. So anytime I need a little bit of calming relaxation, in addition to doing the breathing and the stretching and all of the good behaviors, I always have theanine just in case. The other things that I always keep on hand are phosphatidylserine. I love phosphatidylserine. I take it for sleep. It's really good for the brain and it decreases cortisol. So if I'm under a lot of stress, I will always include phosphatidylserine. And if you looked anytime in the winter, you would see vitamin D under my sink. Vitamin D is amazing for mood and brain health. It's really important for inflammation, and we don't get enough of it in our modern day when we're in buildings and wearing sunglasses and long sleeves or when we have tint on our car windows. So those are probably my top three.
