Do you crave those sugary sweet snacks, reconstituted meat and prepackaged foods? Even though these foods may be low cost, high convenience and high deliciousness, there may be a trade off that you might want to know about. A study released in August of 2022 explored the links between these ultra high processed foods and your mood. Research of over 10,000 people associated adverse mental health events with the consumption of these ultra processed foods, meaning individuals who ate high processed foods experienced more depression and more anxiety. More than 70% of foods in the United States are considered ultra processed foods. So what this means is if you're eating a standard American Diet, there's a 7 out of 10 chance that the food in your cupboard is making you depressed and anxious. According to the National Institute of Health, one in five people deal with mental illness. Here are a couple hacks to get you back on track so that you can eat your way to happy and healthiness without sacrificing the delicious factor. Number one is to eat food from the periphery of the grocery store, so circle around the outside before you go to the prepackaged foods in the center. And number two is to try to eat food fresh and raw if you can. Have you ever seen a link between what you eat and how you feel? Share your experiences in the comments below.
