A short guided visualization by Dr. Nicole Cain instructing listeners to imagine sitting on a grassy hill beside a river and placing worries, thoughts, and stressors onto boats that float downstream, thereby reducing immediate anxiety and allowing focus on the present. The exercise notes that thoughts may return but encourages noticing and letting them continue downstream.

Coping skills for anxiety and depression. I want you to imagine that you are sitting on the side of a hill. It's a beautiful grassy hill, and before you is a river. And along that river you see boats, and they're floating from your right and downstream to your left and out of the way. And so what we're going to do is we're going to imagine your thoughts, your worries, your stressors. We're going to imagine sending them through the air and onto the boats. And then when they land on the boats, you're going to imagine the boat carrying that thought, that worry and that stressor away and downstream. You may notice that as you practice this exercise that sometimes those boats will actually circle around and come back again. And you may see that stressor coming back. And so you just simply notice it and then allow the boat to continue carrying that downstream. So anytime that you have a worry or something coming up that feels stressful to you, that you need to get rid of or put aside so that you can focus on your life right now is just imagine yourself on that grassy hill, looking at the river, put those thoughts onto the boats and then let them carry it away.
