Dr. Nicole Cain (anxiety expert) explains how anxiety reduces motivation and offers a three-step approach to restore drive: (1) identify anxiety as the main threat to drive and recognize you are not your anxiety; (2) practice detached observation of anxious thoughts (self-talk like "thinking, thinking, thinking" and reminders that "I am not my thoughts"); (3) use tapping (acupressure points at the top-of-head box) and breath/words to reduce anxiety. She describes how to locate four points at the top of the head, instructs tapping the four corners for about 30 seconds while inhaling "it's" and exhaling "okay," and invites viewers to join her Anxiety One Week Freedom/Anxiety Freedom Challenge (free trial/one-week program).

I'm going to tell you exactly what to do. When anxiety kills your drive and has you feel like throwing in the towel or not even getting up out of bed in the morning. Have you ever felt like there's a part of you that has dreams and goals and things that you want to do with your life, but that you literally have no motivation to do anything about it? It's like there's this whole inner world where you feel like if you could change the outer world in some awesome way. But then anxiety steals the gusto and you, you need to make things happen, but you don't know how. You try your best to push through, but anxiety always seems to be waiting in the wings. And just when you feel like you've mustered up some motivation, anxiety comes along and squishes it like a bug. Goodness gracious, have I been there in my life? My level of anxiety and motivation tend to have an inverse relationship with my Netflix consumption. The more overwhelmed and anxious I feel, the less motivated I am to pursue my passions or deal with my anxiety, for the record. And the more I want to zone out in front of home and garden television. But you know what? I have found the solution for putting the drive back in your life and kicking your anxiety to the curb. I'm going to share with you three steps for jump starting your drive that you can immediately implement starting today. Hi, I'm Dr. Nicole Cain and as an anxiety expert and an integrated mental health consultant, I've helped thousands of people get their lives back and I can help you. I've worked with high achievers, experts from around the world and have developed powerful integrative strategies that literally change the way my clients think and feel. Step one. The first step is to identify the number one threat against drive, and that's anxiety. You are not your anxiety and you can change your brain and your thoughts. Anxiety is a complex pattern of thoughts and feelings that come out of the brain as a result of history, biology, genetics, trauma and the environment. STEP 2. The anxious brain is like an octopus waving its tentacles all around, grasping at whatever is in its reach. Instead of joining in the chaos, allow yourself to simply observe the process. Don't engage, just notice. Say to yourself, thinking, thinking, thinking. My brain is thinking, wow, those are a lot of anxious thoughts. But I am not my thoughts. My brain likes to think thoughts because it gives it a feeling of control. I have the power to change my thoughts. With practice, I will become more able to create feelings of calm. What else can you think of that you would like to say to your anxious brain. Step three in my Anxiety One Week Freedom Program, we go over multiple skills including ways to stop anxious thoughts, ways to feel better in your body and strategies to reduce your anxiety with daily routine starting now, I want you to practice tapping in traditional Chinese medicine. They describe specific points on the body that can change the way we think and feel. There are four points in the top of your head that are excellent for anxiety. To find them, locate the tips of your ears and trace your fingers to the top of your head. They will connect in the middle at the top of your head and then imagine drawing a small box around that about a thumb's width in each direction. From that central point. The points are located in the four corners of the box with a central spot in the middle. When you start to feel anxious, use the pointer and middle fingers of each hand and tap the four corners with moderate pressure for about 30 seconds. As you untap, inhale the word its and then exhale the word okay. It's okay. Practice this daily and I promise you will start to see results. There are other points and I will teach you those and so much more in the Anxiety Freedom Challenge. I am so on fire for this stuff that I created a one week challenge for you. Come check it out.
