A short coaching video by Dr. Nicole Cain about trusting gut intuition. She defines the gut as a "second brain" and offers a specific exercise: for two candidate decisions, tell and write detailed imagined stories for each (short- and long-term outcomes), then read them back and notice bodily reactions to identify your inner knowing.

Trusting your gut intuition is so important, and it's not one of the easiest things to do. And today I'm going to give you an exercise that you can use on learning to trust what your gut is telling you. I'm Dr. Nicole, and my favorite thing is helping you to be your own mental health expert. And today we're going to be talking about leaning into your gut intuition, your gut, your inner knowing. Your second brain is there to give you information and to help you connect with yourself. So the brain is for poetry and philosophy, and your gut, your second brain, is for knowing. So let's say you're between two decisions, Decision A and decision B. You're going to tell two stories. Imagine that you chose decision A. Describe it in detail, what happened, how you felt, what you imagined occurring as a result of this in the short term and in the long term. And then reflect on this and write it down. And then do the same thing for decision B. Everything that you can think of, everything that you worry about that would be wonderful, that you can imagine. And then imagine that. Tell yourself the story and then write it down. And then give yourself a little bit of space, a little bit of time to sit back and reflect on how you feel and read each version. Read story A and read story B and then notice what you feel in your body as you read them. And that is the wisdom of your inner knowing.
