Dr. Nicole Cain identifies six heavy metals linked to anxiety and panic: arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, and uranium. Each comes from common sources like fish, rice, and groundwater, and damages the nervous system through neurotransmitter disruption and oxidative stress.

Today we're going to talk about six heavy metals that can lead to anxiety. Number one is arsenic, which can be found in fish, rice, and in groundwater. Arsenic interferes with serotonin and dopamine metabolism, which can result in mood swings and cognitive changes, especially anxiety. Cadmium is commonly found in coal manufacturing and in mineral fertilizers. Cadmium interferes with glycine, glutamate and gaba, and that's one of the ways that it can cause anxiety and panic. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, and one of the main sources is farmed fish. You can also get it from industrial farming. Mercury can cause what we know called Mad Hatter symptoms. It causes oxidative damage and can cause a lot of cognitive issues, including panic and depression. Lead is a heavy metal that used to be found in paint and houses. We also see lead used in pencils and in certain agricultural industries. Lead can cause a lot of anxiety, upset, especially gut anxiety, where there's stomach pain and nervousness. Uranium is found from rocks in the ground, and it's a neurotoxin and can interfere with dopamine metabolism. And the last one is cadmium, which comes from batteries. Cadmium also interferes with dopamine metabolism and can cause a lot of anxiety as a result of that. In the Holistic Wellness Collective, we're talking about how to identify if metal toxicity is causing your symptoms. And we talk about exactly what to do to detoxify from heavy metals.
