Short YouTube video by Dr. Nicole Cain explaining that palpitations during anxiety are a form of chest (cardiac) anxiety caused by autonomic nervous system arousal. The speaker links this to evolutionary fight/flight responses and recommends self-help strategies: a "heart Happy breath" breathing technique to stimulate the vagus nerve and lavender essential oil applied near the ear to reduce heart-rate symptoms.

Do you get palpitations when you're anxious? And then do those palpitations make you feel even more anxious? If so, then you're probably dealing with a type of anxiety called chest anxiety or cardiac anxiety. All this is is simply your autonomic nervous system is sending you into autonomic arousal. Autonomic arousal is your body's way of fighting stress. The goal of the body back in the day was to help your heart rate speed up when you're in this feeling of dangers coming, like a tiger is coming after you or a bear. Even though we don't have tigers and bears typically coming after us in the modern era, the body can still respond to the same when we're under a lot of stress and overwhelm. And so when you feel those symptoms coming up in your chest, like palpitations or tension, or like an elephant sitting on your chest, there, there are solutions that you can use that can make a big difference. And one is the heart Happy breath, which is another video of mine that you should check out where you actually can breathe in a way to activate your vagus nerve and calm anxiety. The second is to learn about why the heart rate can go faster and learn how to activate your heart rate to slow down using essential oils. My favorite essential oil is lavender, which you can stick in the bowl of your ear to actually stimulate vaga nerve to calm down.
