EFES: Playing Against My Old Team For The First Time...

Elijah Bryant travels to Montenegro to play his former team Anadolu Efes in a EuroLeague game. He uses hyperbaric chambers and film review to improve 1% daily, identifies a low-percentage shot from the previous night, and designs a drill to fix it. Bryant scores in double figures and reflects on the emotional complexity of facing his old teammates while staying competitive.

Sneaking his way into the lane is Elijah Bryant. Ball makes its way out to Bryant, fakes the shot, baseline float Elijah Bryant, and Larkin hangs it up but taken away by Elijah Bryant. Terrific steal.
All right, so we're about to head to Montenegro for our game against Anadolu Efes. Last night was a big big win in club history. So that was super good, super excited about that. Quick turnaround though, it's 10 and we have to leave. The flight leaves at 12. And I got in the hyperbaric chamber last night. Hyperbaric is great for, you know, at regular atmospheric pressure, 100% oxygen. Basically it puts you in pressure, puts more oxygen to your body. With more oxygen, your muscles can recover faster. So with me, I always believe in systems and things that can make me improve just 1% better. That's the whole Consistency Club mindset, is just trying to be consistent in my systems in order to allow me to get just a little bit better each and every single day. So let's get on this bus.
I can sit next to you, Chris.
Hey, what'd you think? Any good Any good feedback?
Yeah, you're a natural, bro.
So you guys keep asking me a lot about like what I do for workouts or how I structure my workouts or what specifically. So I watched the film from last night's game and I'm gonna structure my basketball workout specifically for that. So last night, Shingelia was forcing me left, I was getting by him creating the advantage, but I was shooting up a low percentage shot. So I'm going to work on a shot specifically today that's going to give me a better percentage to make it. So I'm not being emotionally tied to it, I'm just looking at the data very objectively and saying, what could I have done better here? And I'm going to rep that out. That's an easy way for you guys to understand how to not attach yourself to the result, instead of be very objective of what happened and how can you fix it. So be a problem solver. Also, I keep seeing a lot of you guys, um, in public, and a lot of you guys have been saying, you know, thank you so much for the advice, um, it's helped me much in my life, not just in basketball. And first of all, I appreciate it. And second of all, it's not that I love watching film, it's more so I love progressing in my life. So watching film is a way for me to get a little bit better and be more consistent. So ask questions, be a student of the game, be a student of life. If someone's more advanced, you has more, more knowledge, ask them.
Don't be arrogant.
My son, yo, my son, yo.
Call him. Hey, shout out. What? I don't— Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. What? Why? This is a cool aspect that you probably don't understand if you ever play team basketball at a college level.
This is called a loop. On the loop, I have my name. This right here is for socks. Put the socks in and you clamp it down, and then that way he can just wash the stuff. What I do For my specific stuff, like game pads that I don't want hitting everything that might rip it, I put it inside the net and you zip it up. That way it doesn't get damaged. Basketball lesson of the day. Tommy's luck. Tommy!
You know that's 3-0. That's 3-0.
Lay up, 2-3.
That's 3-0. All right, it's time to lay down, take a nap.
We did a lot of preparation, shoot around, video.
Nap time.
Let's So you guys know, um, obviously I journal a lot. I think journaling is a great way to write down and get the thoughts out of your head, and I think it allows you to relax a little bit but to also learn more about yourself. I think, um, It's also a way to hold yourself accountable. It's funny too because today someone asked me, how do you feel playing against your old team? Are you like, are you gonna kill them? And I was like, those are like people I went to war with for 4 years, so I have nothing but love for them. But at the end of the day, obviously I'm trying to win the game. That's gonna be so weird, like, because just your subconscious mind is so used to your teammates and even your colors. So hopefully I don't do the Winnie and Gabriel thing and accidentally go into their huddle. But I'm excited. It's another opportunity to get better, it's an opportunity to grow. And as always, after the game, we'll talk about 2 things we did well and 1 thing that we could work on just to continue to keep ourselves in the growth mindset. Even if you have 40 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds, it doesn't matter. There's always something that you can learn from and grow from. You never play a perfect game. So let's get it.
And a very warm welcome to the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica. Elijah Bryant, one of 3 FS Old Boys facing off against his former club tonight. So the first possession to the visiting team on this neutral venue. So Bryant calling for the screen from Aturu, slapped away, but it's off the backboard. That'll be a goaltend. Larkin hangs it up, but taken away by Elijah Bryant. Terrific steal. Of the quarter. Oh, swatted out of bounds, but it looks as though it may well be a goal 10 coming down from the peak of its apex. Oh, that's close. Sneaking his way into the lane, and it's Elijah Bryant, 6 points in the game. Makes his way out to Bryant, fakes the shot, baseline floater. Elijah Bryant becomes the first double-digit scorer. Points in the period, a single field goal, and now gained the lead. He did now a double-digit points total. It is a backcourt violation committed by Jordan Lloyd because of the pressure being applied. Elijah Bryant, so the halfway line, sets the screen. Bryant penetrates the high-line D and dances his way into the lane. He scored 11 points in the win against Barcelona.
Game went well, we got the dub. That's the number one thing. Super weird playing against my old team and seeing familiar faces from weight coaches to equipment managers, just training staff, the GM, to everyone. I have nothing but love for all the people over there. Great memories. But obviously in a basketball game you want to win, and we did that. But there's— as we always do at the end of these videos, these vlogs— there's two things I did good, one thing I can work on. Two things I did good: I think I played more better tactically in terms of like knowing they were hedging me. Could have done better one time on the Osmani when he heads super hard. Another thing I did well, I'd say I played decent defense. One thing I need to do better is pick up the ball better, and I also need to rebound better. I mean, they had a lot of offensive rebounds, and I think I finished the game 1 rebound, so that's unacceptable for my standards. Tomorrow we head back to Sofia, so God is good as always. Faith plus consistency.
Love.
