Today's June—
July 8th. It's the first day of getting back to workouts.
I feel like a little kid in a candy store.
Kind of nervous, anxious, weird. Keep going with the ball, please.
Yeah, their team was good and we shouldn't beat them, but the game, the game of who can play mean to the other team, team 2. Keep your jump, keep your hips angled, push the knees out.
Give me a sign. This can't be life. If there's a point to losing love, repeating pain, it's all the same. I hate this place, stuck in this paradigm. Don't believe in paradise. This would speak when hell is like this. Got to be more, got to be more.
Sick of this mind, thoughts, paralyzed.
No Today is June 9th, my second day of workouts.
Body is sore, but that's good.
I really didn't touch a weight yesterday, but all right, let's go.
So I haven't really been keeping you guys up to date, actually.
So as you've been seeing, I've been training. I started training, um, weights. I do weights in the morning at BYU, and then I train my trainer and It's interesting because this is the first year I've started this late. I started July 8th, and that's like 3 weeks off for me, which is very long. And the reason I did, because as I'm getting older, I need to start using this— these long European preseasons as a way to get in shape. I can't show up in elite, elite shape. I still need to allow myself to ramp up, you know, which is so hard for me just because I'm like showing up, I like feeling good in the preseason. Games, but the idea is to be in shape and ready to go by the first, first game of the year. I think it'll help me. And another thing, and during my like basketball workout, I always like to— like, how I structure my workouts is focused on one move and maybe a counter, if not always ball handling. Um, depending on— I'm coming straight from weights, I'm still warm— maybe some mobility. Dude, I'm freaking sore. And with Wiz, I don't know if you guys know, but Wiz, the strength coach at BYU, is actually one of the assistant strength coaches at Milwaukee. When I was there, so we kind of have a connection. It's been fun. It's been fun to get back in the swing of things.
It's crazy.
This will be— it's going to be year 7. Is it year 7 or year 8?
I don't know.
And it's so weird because I feel young, right? I feel like I'm going to be 30 this year, which is weird for me. I haven't really accepted it. Being around these college guys, I'm like, dang, man, I'm not young anymore. I'm getting older. And it's not a bad thing. I mean, with age there's wisdom, but it's just like weird. And it makes me excited too. Makes me, makes me grateful and really want to cherish the moment of these seasons I have remaining, whether that's 10 or whether that's 1, you know what I mean? Cherish every moment because not everyone gets to play professional basketball, you know? It's very, it's a very honor to play. And another thing that's crazy, just it's crazy these guys at BYU getting paid and the treatment they get and Honestly, I don't even know if I ever would have left BYU. I would have stayed 20 years if I could. Like, you get paid, you get the facilities, you get the coach, especially with Kevin Young there now and all the people there now. It's amazing. So kids, don't take any day for granted on that court, man, because you never know when the ball's going to stop. But yeah, I need to freaking find some— I need to find a gun to— not a gun, like a massage gun. Massage, because I'm sore.
A good day to have a good day.
What time is it?
9:36, July 11th.
I'm about to head to Waits, get this party started, baby.
The weird thing is that I literally lived around here. I lived in two different houses when I was, uh, going to BYU, so this has been a super crazy thing to actually own a house near here and to be able to take my bike just to work out and then to basketball workouts has been a blessing.
So super grateful. You coming tomorrow?
Yeah. Okay, do your push-ups at home. Okay, I love you. How the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. How the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. How the fuck I'm still up? Right name, names on the list, baby.
7-day candles are lit, baby.
Shot the machine.
A week, baby.
Problems are there to get fixed, baby. Send me something from your trip, baby. Going invisible, ain't going to pics, baby. Want to turn you to a housewife and you never had to clean a dish, baby. Yeah, baby, just roll one up. Yeah, how many quotes I wrote? How much gold I struck? Hey, how many funeral days they planned for me and I dodged it like the truck? Yeah, rap game like my sleeping pattern, cause how the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. How the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language.
Niggas don't speak my language.
Now let's do that this time.
Now it's a little drop cross.
Did you ever use smoke bombs?
I think it's the 15th, Monday, July 15th.
We're going to—
you're out here in Utah at my house going to my workouts.
I think the door's closed.
What, downstairs? Yeah, I think it's—
it doesn't matter here. No, this car's almost brand new.
The back doesn't say that.
Got hit?
It's like white stuff. No, like the back, like the back of your seat, it's like has white stuff all over it.
Play your best song. Golly, it's hot in here. It's not hot. Oh, you have a seat heater on? You want your seat heater on or no?
I don't even know how it's on. It's been on the entire trip.
I haven't even—
how do I connect to my device?
Why don't you just connect to this?
Oh, like connect it, connect it? Is it on USB-C?
I know, I know, I got some Mando.
Some Mando?
Instead of fall over, right? Then once you push like this, when I drag a bit— yes, excellent. So I would keep landing in this foot stance.
He pulls me on arc, index down too. Don't worry about this, like that, like that.
Nice.
One problem I have too sometimes is when I shoot it, I'm like falling back. Stay in the shot so if they do foul you—
I never get any fouls on 3s, so I'm always running out of them.
Hey, can you try to get to my page? She's so deep, no head. I just miss the rest of my fam. Special on land, fair guy fam. Another pan of red, another pan of red. Drink to the head, got two cell phones down 70 mil.
Put your pussy on leg, get it dripping pink cake.
Some say do what I say, Q-Link choke my neck. Why is that?
Uber DJ.
You don't have your, your ball roller in your bag?
Every tool you should have.
Let Daddy show you. We got Kai Breezy on the, on the joint. You ready?
Let's go.
But if that's not in your bag, I would start there.
Yes.
Let's see if you can do that almost every time. Right, right, stop, split step. Left foot's not trying to get in front, you're trying to get off the track fast.
Keep wiping your feet, guys.
Elijah, you— your, uh, text didn't make sense this morning.
What?
I said your text didn't make sense.
Didn't? No. Huh?
What day is this for you?
Training?
Oh, hold on, hold on.
How you feel?
Pretty good.
Body feels good?
Yeah. What?
All right, so it's been, it's been like almost 2 weeks starting basketball workouts back, and I've had my brother here for the last week, and it's been very— always have like, like some insight just in terms of like why are certain players better than and what it comes back to me is just habits. All it is is habits. Is what are your habits like in terms of what do you do every single day to get better at basketball? And where I'm at right now, where I'm training, I bought this house to not only be closer to the gym and work out more, but also to be closer to my family. It has created less friction for me to be able to get to my workouts consistently on a daily basis, and that's something that I think you can apply to every aspect of your life, whether it's eating better— don't bring the junk food in the house— whether it's reading more, turn your iPad off or put it somewhere else. Like, as a society, we just need to build better habits. I think our lives will be better. And there's a lot of things that are distracting us, you know. I'm not a perfect person. I like to look at my phone at night just to relax. But habits and consistency will get you to where you want to be, whether it's a CEO, NBA player, artist, professional cook.
Habits and consistency.
So when you're this far away, no, your midpoint doesn't need to be high because you're super far away, right? And you're naturally beating the ground more because you're so deep. What I'm saying, if you're going to shoot near the high school creek, you cannot land in a split pen and keep starting your wrist in front of your eye.
Nope.
I said back rim. I said back.
Watch, watch, watch, watch. Huh? It's pretty off the ground now.
3 more. I fall for you every time I try to resist you. We can get away, palm trees, beach views, ordinary.
Mom and I are finishing our talks, okay? And I end up signing with the team in Turkey.
Can you please not do that out loud?
No.
Me and my brother, and Jen called me and says the tire's flat.
Mind you, we drive our car, my car, from college because humble. And she called my—
the car's been giving us problems for like since we got here. It says like the every time we drive it, the transmission like acts weird. So it's going to the shop in the next few days. But anyways, we've been riding on eggshells the past while. Tires need to be changed. It's a 2007 Land Rover LR3.
Had it since college. It works, so I don't spend money. And I'm like, first of all, I'm pissed off cuz I'm like I'm just gonna work out. But then I'm like, freak, okay, I gotta take care of my family. So I started doing the YouTube video looking, call my dad. The jack I have is like not working, so I go to Home Depot. Luckily they were at Target so I could send them— send them— dude, the brownies for everyone, Joe.
Yo, I hit the weed too hard. You send that 8-minute voice note straight from the heart. I reply like, yo, whatever. When can you come get your stuff? I need this shit out the crib. I think it's bringing bad luck. Plug in, now you're lit. I pull the plug, now you're stuck. Dignity over her nut. Weak man all in the cut. How many doors did he shut? How many feathers they pluck? That ain't like my sleeping pattern, 'cause how the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. How the fuck I'm still up? Yeah, niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. Niggas don't speak my language. How the fuck I'm still up?
All right, so after the 2 weeks of training with me— I guess a week and a half— what'd you learn?
Uh, I don't know, huh?
Like a lot about my shooting, shooting form and split stance and stuff.
Was it fun? Was it beneficial?
Yeah, I think so.
You got to keep in contact with my boy Adam.
I'm proud of you. Can you bring What?
Same here, brother.
You got Chrome Hearts on?
Well, it's a little bit. It's two pieces.
How did Chrome Hearts get so popular randomly? I mean, obviously it's been around for a while. It's been around since like someone like, like started— rappers. Yeah, rappers. But rock stars were wearing it at first.
The people that were endorsing—
it's just trendy right now. Yeah, I mean, there's me over there. There's me.
Go ski!
Go ski!
I've always liked it, but I don't know, I just never had the money enough to buy it. I like it since about, I don't know, like 20.
So Kai is— what's, what's, what's today's July 26th? What's July 26th, 2024? Kai's going into his senior year. What are you manifesting? Like, what's your— we're gonna have this conversation, let's say, in 5 years. What, what are you gonna—
5 years?
Yeah, 5 years.
What's the plan?
I would say being, uh, a lot of stuff. I don't know, like obviously I want to go Division 1 and play in the NBA, but obviously not like that's not gonna be the perfect journey. But the main goal is just to be able to play pro, make money, like playing the game I love, even—
what?
Wrong with the family? How's that wrong? You said what you— you said what you wanted to say in the beginning. But then you tried to downplay it. So say it again.
Go.
What did I say?
I want to play D1 and play in the NBA.
Yeah.
Okay. So why did you say the other stuff? Other stuff don't matter. You said what you wanted.
Yeah. Okay.
So let's try again. What's going to be— what's going to happen in 5 years?
I want to play Division 1 basketball.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
5 years?
I'm going to, not I want to.
Oh, I'm going to play high major Division 1 basketball and play in the NBA.
For what team right now?
I mean, the coaching staff can change, but right now probably want to play for the, uh, either the Sixers or, uh, what's the coach?
What's his name?
What's his name?
I'm trying to get a coach. Oh, OKC.
OKC would be great.
Under Shea.
Oh my God, Shea in his prime or out of his prime when he's like, what, how old is he now?
Like Oh my gosh. No, but the reason I wanted to— I mean, because obviously like you're 17, right? A lot of kids are going through the same stuff that you're going through, trying to find like, you know, confidence, identity, trying to find themselves in life. And their life has been wrapped up in basketball. Everything is based on basketball in terms of how you feel about yourself in terms of I play good, I feel good about myself. I play bad, I feel bad about myself, correct?
Yeah, you get detached to—
well, and I think as, as we have— in order to like become a really, really, really, really good basketball player and have mental stability off the court, you have to detach those from— and more look at it like I'm checking in for my 9 to 5, I'm doing everything possible to get better but I'm not looking at my entire— yeah, I'm not focused on the result. I'm more focused on the task and the process. And that's, that's a big thing. Maybe you saw like this week, I'm very— my biggest thing, what you've seen, I'm very big on consistency. Like, you know what I mean? Like, it's not so much intensity, it's more so how consistent can you be, because that, that's what's gonna get you to where you want to go.
Right?
Not, I'm gonna work out 5 hours today and work out 30 minutes the next day.
Yeah, I'm thinking just 2 hours every day.
Exactly.
And I think also being honest with yourself in terms of what I need to do. So the fact that if you have a gun or if you have resources to do stuff, like make it part of your routine. Hey, I need to do this every single day. You're not going to see results in a week. You're going to see them when he gets an alien like, hey, my joint feels fire, right? And then you're gonna go through a phase where you're like not doing it.
It doesn't feel good.
Yeah, but it's the same, it's the same thing all pros go through. They're like, oh, I'm, I'm doing good, like this is— I'm gonna say stop doing the routine and then they had to get back. And it's not just basketball, it's, it's mental, it's, it's, uh, like taking care of your body type of stuff, but Yeah, and you also got to understand the goal. Like I told you before, the goal is, is NBA. What that trajectory looks like, what that path looks like, doesn't matter. No one knows because it's different for everyone. They can change like this. It's how you get Andrew Wiggins, but you got to keep the goal, or the— and keep the goal of that, and then make sure your systems add up to that, right?
Yeah, I love you.
No, say it like you mean it.
I love you too, bro.
Oh, your little brother look up to me like I'm his only family. Backseat, backstroke, 20 times more, you can get what you want, 20 times more, you can have it all. I don't ask no questions about who else involved. Get rid of your troubles, problem solved. All I sip is codeine, clean, raw. I've been doing work, work for these bitches long time. She been around us for too long, threw my games out. I could be 60 in Turn him up.
Turn this bitch up.
So same, same thing.
Always use a line, use a teeth. You also focus on the hands and arms straightening your feet.
Your boy's back in the game, back in the game. That was kind of choppy. My first— second chop since being home. Nah, but you see, I've been working out, doing our thing.
The freak was that?
Anyways, um, now I'm going to one of my favorite grocery stores, and it's a grocery store and a cafe. It's called Redmond. A bunch of healthy stuff. I'm going there to pick up some bone broth. Guys, if you aren't drinking bone broth, it's great, especially after surgery. I didn't have a surgery, but just to give the body everything it needs— ligaments, joints, bones— it's great. So one cup a day will keep the doctor away. I try to do one cup in the morning, one cup at night. I mean, it tastes like broth, right? But it's fire for your body, and you only get one body. I keep seeing people saying— like, the other thing is too, I got this other thing called a chili, a chili sleep pad. But I was told about this many, many years ago. I'm a very, very hot sleeper, right? And this keeps me cool. It's increased my restorative sleep at night. So this keeps cool at night, and it's been game changer. Something that goes under the mattress and has a chiller. It's fire. I bought it myself. They didn't give it to me for free. Usually I'm telling you guys stuff that I got for free, but I bought this myself, and I'm in the middle of a home renovation project. I'm learning. I'm learning a lot, to say the least. But God is good. Tonight we're going up to give a talk to a young woman, so I gotta finish my talk. I still haven't finished it, but God is good. And remember, choose the light.
Whoa, dunk it, Blue!
Let's see.
Come on. Yes!
Whoa!
Dang, let's see.
Come on, I think that much.
That's where Uncle Trey's going to play.
That's where Uncle Trey plays.
Yeah.
Obviously, you know what bags we rock with. OGO. If you're traveling overseas, these are the best bags. I'm telling you, they'll last and their warranty is great. So you're going overseas, basketball player, this is the bag you want to get.
It's good for the pain.
