I Tried Oxygen Therapy for 60 days as a Pro Hooper...Why You Don't NEED to

Pro basketball player Elijah Bryant spent 60 days in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and found it wasn't worth the $15k price tag. Red-light therapy, compression boots, sleep, and nutrition did almost as much for recovery and actually worked on the road.

This is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Some of the best athletes in the world like LeBron, Giannis, Steph, Ronaldo use this in their training regimen to increase recovery, to allow them to play a healthier season. And me, I've challenged myself for the past 60 days when I'm home to use this. But this is something obviously I can't travel with, so stay till the end of the video, though you'll see other things that you can use to increase your recovery to allow you to have a better basketball season. Let's get it. So obviously this video is about hyperbaric chamber, and now that I'm in the hotel before the game, I can't bring the hyperbaric chamber with me, obviously. So I'm using other things like red light, compression boots, because these personally that actually sprained my ankle. So red light is super good for healing and speeding up your mitochondrial health. So what is your mitochondria? Mitochondria basically is like the engine inside your cells that gets everything to work, and the red light basically gives them a jolt. So when they have more energy, they can get inflammation out, they can go and repair muscles. So it's something that I've been using to help. So when it comes to this team specifically, they're one of the most talented teams in EuroLeague with Mike James, Elijah Bryant, Nedovic, Strazl, Diallo. Diallo is probably my player. I just like what he does. He plays both sides, he's very talented offensively, but that's not his role on this team. I think he's a really good player, so shout out Diallo. So we have a tough matchup tonight and very guard-heavy, so being able to stay in front of them in isolation situations— obviously Mike's the leading scorer of EuroLeague, all-time leading scorer, and they're really well coached by Spanoulis or Kill Bill. So I'm gonna kill—
I won this trophy, how do you feel?
For us, we have to stay focused on us and do things that can help us win. And it's a long season, right? So this will be definitely a tough game. And in these film sessions, I started watching more of the full game to see the kind of vibes before we watch tendencies. And most of these players I know, there's no one that's not playing I don't know their tendencies. You know, Mike, step back right. Eli, bing bing bing bing bing, step right. He has a lot in his bag. Diallo, go right, spin back left, box him out, box out blossom game. They have Mirotić I didn't mention, stay down on his pump fakes. He's looking to foul bait. So those are the type of tendencies that when you have film that you can, you know, you can learn from. So in terms of recovery, obviously using compression boots can be very beneficial because it's easy to pack. Easy to travel with, a lot of bang for the buck. And the reason compression boots are so good is because they get all the lactic acid out. So they squeeze— what makes your muscles feel sore is the lactic acid. So this allows you to get that out and flush all the bad stuff out and get new fresh blood flow in to allow you to recover faster. Even though I can't travel with the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, the benefits it allows me to have are tremendous. So For anyone that doesn't know what a hyperbaric oxygen chamber is, it's basically a capsule you get inside. There's soft shell and there's hard shell. I have a soft shell and it goes to 1.3 atmospheric pressure. So what does that mean? Imagine you are in a swimming pool. Farther you go down, the more pressure is put on top of you. When there's more pressure with the concentration of the oxygen, it gets to your muscles and blood faster. So for example, when you're walking outside, you're at regular pressure and the oxygen is 21%. When you're inside the chamber, It's 100% pure oxygen that you're breathing, plus it's being pressurized so you can recover faster, heal faster, sleep better. So everything is just supercharged like a delivery truck bringing extra supplies to heal everything in your body. Now don't get me wrong, it's very beneficial, but there are some weird things about it. I would say, for example, getting inside of it if you're claustrophobic can be kind of difficult and it gets really hot in there. So I usually put an ice pack around my neck and yes, you can get an AC unit and all this stuff, but considering my lifestyle and traveling, I couldn't bring the AC unit. Now for me, when it comes to taking care of my body, this was something that I purchased after I signed my new contract instead of maybe a watch or a car or jewelry, because for me, I want to fuel my Ferrari. And this is a way to compound my new contract but also compound taking care of my body. And I usually use it for 60 to 120 minutes. I found some new research that says basically after 60 minutes nothing else happens. So I started doing for 60 minutes, and then after that I go I sleep like a baby. And once figuring out how to actually get into it, then it's game changer for your recovery. There's plenty of players using it, even in EuroLeague. I know the guy that got me on it, I already knew about it, was Zach LaDain. I remember we played them last year. He played 30+ minutes and he didn't seem tired at all. And I was like, yo, what's the secret? So he put me on and said he was using it, and I was like, I gotta get one. Obviously LeBron James, even famous people like Drake and Justin Bieber use these things to recover faster in order to perform at their highest level. Now you're probably telling yourself is, okay, yeah, that sounds good, but I can't afford a $15,000 machine. You are right, and you don't need to. And I'll tell you exactly what you can do to recover the best when we get to our 2:1 at the end.
Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to the Arena 8888 Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria, the temporary home of Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv, last season's Eurocup champions. So the opening tip is up and it is run down by Vasilije Micić. Pump fake, one dribble left, that's off left. Rebound hauled in by Elijah Bryant. But my goodness, there's no problem with the elevation on that alley-oop conversion. Dan Aturu Elijah Bryant screams baseline, offloads to Jonathan Motley at the dot. Beautiful. Elijah Bryant once again, that is a delightful penetration and pitch. Toe no toe McGinnis. With Alpha Diallo, crosses him up, attacks, applies the brakes, short corner J's off the front rim. Now, is this an offensive rebound and stickback? Elijah Bryant, Eli Okogo fighting for the board. Elijah Bryant has got another offensive rebound. Elijah Bryant off the iron from downtown. Chris Jones inbound to Elijah Bryant. The shooter and screams the short corner jump shot. By Haifa Wallabi Tel Aviv, there's contact on the perimeter. Mike James had his shot blocked, and it's that man Jonathan Motley in the thick of the action once again. Stone cold from 3-point territory, Elijah Bryant makes both. So Matthew Strazell beating the end of Porter, brother, but he can't get it to go. And a terrific game of basketball, guys.
We got the win, 5-1. What a great start to the season. But when it comes to the H-Pot, so if we were traveling tomorrow, I would do it because I can't travel with it. But since, like I said before, I'll tell you guys the best recovery that you can have that is free is sleep. So I think prioritizing sleep and nutrition when I'll be here tomorrow is more important than getting the H5, than staying up even later and not getting good sleep. Because when you sleep, you recover everything, and it's free. It's one of the best recovery tools ever. You increase your human growth hormones, you get all active acid out, you get everything with sleep. So focus on your sleep. And as always, at the end of the videos, we do 2 to 1. So 2 things I did well and 1 thing I could do better. I'm going to start with the one thing I can do better just off the top is obviously shoot better catch and shoot. I missed all my catch and shoots tonight, but the thing is I kept shooting. You have to always keep shooting. The two things I did well: made my free throws, rebound well, had a few assists, and only had one turnover. That's what I was happy about. So Monaco is a very good team, a Final Four team from last year. We got the win. Partizan's coming up. As always, faith plus consistency. Love.
