So young players out there, when you're worried about how many likes you're getting on Instagram, how many points, or what team you're on, focus on developing skill. Focus on developing good habits.
There he goes again, Elijah Bryant, dazzling dribble.
What up guys, welcome back to the channel. Today we're going to be talking about task-driven versus ego-driven. Are you task-driven or ego-driven?
Ego for sure.
So the reason I wanted to talk about this: A, due to our season, and B, to help the young Hoopers out there. Butters, Butters, Butters, Butters, Butters. No, no, no, no. Hi, Butters.
I love you.
Be good for Mom, okay? Do we look alike, yes or no?
You guys are so cute. Love you. So task-driven versus ego-driven.
The reason I want to talk about it is because it's helped me a lot, not only in basketball but in life. So being task-driven has allowed me to see through the lows and stay humble on the highs. But when you ask yourself, like, what is task-driven in a daily perspective, not so much basketball, and I would say it's basically the ability to be able to, like I said, stay humble through the highs and see through the lows and to stay on that routine of building habits. And that's what we're talking about on this channel as of lately. Oh, and on a side note, I got my car back. They fixed the mirror, and yeah, everything's back in order. God bless.
Belly TV, baby!
Hey, Tinok! Tinok! Ah, it's a Tinok! LG, what are you doing? It's my job, baby. It's my job, baby. No, no, no. Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello. What's going on here?
So being ego-driven is you're focusing on— y'all ain't gonna tell me I have stuff all over my lips, that's crazy, that's crazy. So being ego-driven is you're focused on rewards, you're focused on the accolades, but the problem with being ego-driven is that you're always comparing yourself to others.
Bye, thank you.
Thank you.
They push back hard seats.
Bad seats.
It's chilly out here. I like it.
I got some chills. They're multiplying. They don't like us.
What?
Have you watched Greaser before?
I got chills. They're multiplying. Grislyadny.
Go Grislyadny!
More famous than—
yeah, the Golden Gate, more famous than Brooklyn Bridge.
For real, look it up.
You're meeting in Corona mode.
What up, bocellus? Just got to the hotel. It was good. They have baklava here. I ate 2 of them. Hotel is super nice.
How's Blue?
All right, so ego-driven is being focused on the rewards, and when that happens, you tend to compare yourself to others. And I love this quote: comparison is the thief of joy. So we get on Instagram, we scroll, we see all our friends have this, have that. It takes our joy away. Sorry, I didn't really address that. I made it to the hotel. We're in Istanbul, Turkey, and I want to read this to you. Task-driven athletes are interested in improving and mastering their skill. Ego-driven athletes compare themselves with others and measure success by how many medals they have won instead of how much skill they have developed. So young players out there, when you're worried about how many likes you're getting on Instagram or how many points or, or what team you're on. Focus on developing skill. Focus on developing good habits of going to the gym, waking up, eating right, of listening to your parents, of getting your schoolwork done. Build great habits, which leads to task-oriented players.
All right, so obviously, you know, we're in Istanbul, Turkey playing Efes.
The reason I want to do this video about task-driven and ego-driven, not only for young people out there, young basketball players, young people trying to achieve their goals in their life is because our team, as you know, we've lost a few games at the end of the buzzer. Olympiacos, me, uh, we lost a lot of close games. CSKA in the last few minutes, right? But as you saw in Kimchi, we won, and it was the same situation as Olympiacos. So the whole thing is, is be task-driven.
Calerio now goes to his dribble, lurking is T-Ball Price. He comes over to the double team. Elijah Bryant for 3, and he connects. Composure from Elijah Bryant. Wilberkin working on Ghazi, bullet pass down to a cutting Dragan Bender. Rapid ball movement around the perimeter, fouled on a 3-pointer. Count the bucket and 4-point play opportunity. He buries his first of the game to keep the shooting percentages from 3 incredibly lofty. Tough finish on the inside by Elijah Bryant, 5 points in the game for him. So it's Elijah Bryant up the near side. Moyamon comes to momentarily trap. He pulls up for 3 and buries it. Elijah Bryant is red hot, 8 points in the quarter. Perfect shooting from the field so far. Screen set by Hunter once again. Bryant looking for another 3, and he is lighting it up from long range before he just knocked down the J in the lane as Othello Hunter explodes to the bucket. And his 4 points in a row for Othello Hunter. So 3-pointer is strung sweetly by Scottie Wilberkin. So Micić lost his footing, and as a result, he's lost the basketball to Bryant. Tyler Dorsey almost lost it but managed to recover. Into the lane, pulls up on the edge of the— Tel Aviv come away with the basketball. Closing seconds of the first half. Dorsey working a dribble, fakes the 3, recycles to Bryant, and Elijah Bryant beats the halftime buzzer with his 4th 3-pointer of the half, right? Because the ball came to him when the half— when the quarter clock was ticking down to halftime, but his composure, his concentration were absolute. Collier with a nice catch, manages to get it to Bryant, fakes the 3, drives baseline, met by Vasilije Micić, takes him into the lane, turnaround J is canned. Elijah Bryant with 16 points in the game. Mantežić, uncharacteristically quiet, 2 points in the game so far. And Elijah Bryant getting the shooter's roll on everything. Big rebound Elijah Bryant, and now it's a 5-on-4 opportunity for Maccabi Playtik Tel Aviv. What a take to the bucket, coast to coast for Elijah Bryant. He could only find the front of the rim. Nice catch by Elijah Bryant, the drive baseline, and he gets the shooter's roll once again. A new career high for Elijah Bryant. So end line possession, former Carby play Tee Catella-Ve. Elijah Bryant looking to back down Bougouar, catching as a shooter is Scottie Wilberkin, and he cans it from the field.
All right, so to finish this off, practical application of being task-driven. My question to you: do you get up and brush your teeth every single morning regardless of how your day goes? Maybe some of you don't, but that's besides point. Most people get up and brush their teeth every single morning and night regardless of how their day goes because it's a task they do every single day. The reward might be feeling fresh, your teeth feeling fresh, but it's a task-oriented thing. So that's how you should approach your life, sports, your job. Obviously there will be goals, there will be losses, there will be wins. As we focus on being more task-oriented, wins, losses, those things don't bother us, those things don't shake our routines. Our habits. So let's focus on getting one penny a day. And I had this motto of like the one-cent club, and that just means get better a little bit each day regardless of the outcome. So thanks for watching this video, and we'll see you next time.
All right, so what does it mean to be task-driven?
To be task-driven is keep working at something no matter the outcome, the reward, or the consequence.
So basically, tell Blue that about tummy time.
You're gonna do it every day.
