How Ryan Added $66K In Video Contracts - Master Filmmaker Review

Ryan of Rive Media went from musician to video producer and added $66K in contracts in a year using the Master Filmmaker program. He landed a $50K retainer with a home-service client, plus projects at $18K, $15K, and $8K by narrowing his niche, productizing his offers, and following the program's sales playbook.

What's going on, guys? I'm here with one of our clients, Ryan from Rive Media, who added 66K in video contracts to his video agency. What's going on, Ryan? How are you?
How's it going? Good to see you.
You too, dude, you too. For anybody who doesn't know you, do you mind just giving us a little bit like a little bit of backstory on kind of you, how you got started, a little bit about the company?
Yeah, absolutely. So I've been a full time musician for 15 years until the pandemic hit. And I always had my, you know, one foot into the video production world just because I could save a lot of money doing it myself and I kind of had a knack for it. And, and once I started shooting content, doing commercial content, just run a gun by myself. And then I. And I was the content director for a really successful YouTube channel and traveled all over the country. I was realized, well, I don't want to keep doing this all by myself and I want to start to, to, you know, create little copies of the way that I think. Right. And so I hired two guys and just been kind of working on them, refining them over the last year and a half. Ish. I saw the master filmmaker ads a billion times, you know, over and over and over and over again. Because I've been do what, just harassing.
You in the feed.
What is this? And so I do my due diligence to try to figure out, okay, is this legit? Is this really legit? I'm going through, I'm seeing like reviews and stuff. And so I'm like, oh, okay. Once I finally got to the bottom of it, I was like, okay, no, no, this is legit. These people just need to follow the process, right? So I'm making excuses. I'm saying, no, we have to market too. We can't just make content. We're not valuable enough. And just fell into these really bizarre traps as a perfectionist. Even though one of the first modules is like, hey, done is better than perfect, right? So you guys did your work. It's just up to us to actually pay attention and listen. And we used all the tools, all the modules to build out the offer, build out the website, start to figure out, go high level and all the things that you guys say to do sales tactics, that has been a very, like a massive help. Just all those things that you offer, just starting to implement those. I was like, no, this is, this is so valuable. We're going to keep sticking with them. And so Lo and behold, here we are built out that offer use the sales tactics that you guys teach. And someone that I didn't even think was going to sign with us signed for a little over 50.50k for a year doing reels and like two commercials and then some stills and publishing their content on social media. And then I used the similar tactics shown in the pitch deck that you guys tell us how to build and the offers for another city and local.
When did you. When did you, like, start actually implementing, like, implementing it again? And then from when implemented it, when did you see that start to like, actually take, like, come to fruition? I guess I would.
Well, so last year when we. It was April when we started with you guys last year. It's been one year. And we I. About a month in, we I immediately was like, okay, no, this is how we're pitching everything, right? And we did like an $18,000 set of work, a $15,000 set of work, $8,000 set of work.
What are you talking about? You. You slacked off, dude. You closed deals from one sales tactic that you got.
It's true. Oh, my God.
It.
But the. We've. We've kind of been, you know, kind of.
Yeah, I've been kind of like picking pieces of what you.
Like what you're.
And then neglecting maybe some other parts and.
I mean, that's an understatement.
Well, and here's the reality, right? It's like for you, you obviously got the value out of the pieces you did use. Now we're adding more pieces to it.
Right.
And I think a lot of people think that maybe we come in and we need to overhaul the entire business. And this is what a point I want to hit on as well. Sometimes we're just coming in and making a few small tweaks, right, to what you're doing to make big, big changes in the business. Because it's like the little. The little hinges swing those big doors a lot of times. And for you, Obviously, you said 18k, like a 16k, like some other type deals in there as well. It's like just by changing a couple of sales tactics, you don't always have to, you know, get overwhelmed and overhaul everything. I think sometimes people can do that, and you might have fallen victim to that a little bit as well, which is normal. But it's like just small tweaks at a time, and then those add up to big results at the end of the day. You know what I mean?
100%. Yeah. I mean, I second everything you Say there we definitely. I went way overboard. Oh, no, no. You know, we've got to do this. We got to do this. We got to change this. We got to do this. Because I see it, I see what, how it needs to be. And you know, I've always been that way, whether it's learning something on the guitar or, you know, making a scene look right. Yep.
Yeah, absolutely. What are some of the things that helped you on the sales side? I was curious.
So you, you guys are, are actually naming it, right? So instead of saying, instead of just a way to keep the power in your, in the ball, on your court, instead of saying, you know, would you like to book a follow up call? Like, why that? No, don't ever say that. Right. Like you say, you say, does next Tuesday work for a follow up call? You know, like that little shift. So take that and apply that to every. You're not giving them an option, you're not giving them an ability to opt out. You're making them convince themselves that what you have is not what they need. Right. And so that little shift alone in sales, it can inform every other thing that you do from your offer to how you book meetings, you know, your, your demeanor in. If you're in person, which, you know, we are in person sometimes here with these folks that are interested in purchasing. So just taking those little things that you go, that you go through and then just applying that to every little part of it makes a massive difference for sure.
And the 50k retainer that you closed with the home service company, is that your first retainer? Have you done that before? Like walk me through that a little bit.
Yes, that, that is the official, that's officially the first retainer that wasn't already that I wasn't already, because we have other retainers, but that's before the master film. It's just like, hey, it's a company I've worked with for a long time. They're going to pay us particular amount to deliver this amount of content, right? Yeah. And which has kind of floated everything. Yeah, this is a whole new thing, right? This is like, hey, let me see what you guys do. And now it's like, oh, we're going to use the master filmmaker playbook, what I keep calling it around here, to, to frame.
And like you said too, it's like it's taking those little things that inform the rest of the process. And it's like one of the things I did with one of my clients is like, don't send proposals.
Right.
It's like, don't do that one thing. Walk them through it on the call. It's like that can inform whether you close. Like, for one of our clients, it's like 144k deal or nothing. Right. So it's like, yeah, taking those small things and applying those throughout the entire process is definitely those small hinges that swing the biggest doors. And I guess, like, is there anything. Obviously, as we're still going through, we're coming back to some parts of the program. Has there been anything that's been kind of particularly helpful for you along this process that we went through with you?
Yeah, well, there's so much because you guys are. It's so in depth. Everything's so in depth. But I mean, the most. I mean, it sounds kind of redundant because I feel like I've already said it, but crafting the offer, I think is. Well, no, I think. I think the most important thing that you guys have to have at least have offered us so far is this. How do you say it? This permission to narrow down. Right. Like, you're giving us a permission to say, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Like, let's really focus in here, right? Let's. Let's do it as you do what you do super well and people are going to find value in that. Right. And then that, that gives you. It's like, oh, it's a loss. We're going to lose all this other stuff. It's like, no, no, no, no. You're going to gain, you know, this lane here that everybody else is kind of neglecting. Right. Or you just happen to do better at that. So I think that permissions that you grant similar to a budget, right? It's like, oh, I can't spend this amount of money. No, no, no, no, no. You're saving this for this particular.
Become a specialist in one area with one method, one unique mechanism, one way of getting, like, getting your clients more results, better results and just really niching.
Down into that one thing because it's modular too. Like, you, you're everything. So if you're sticking with like, say if you're doing home service companies. Yeah. We're still going to shoot content for other people, right. Like, we. We're ultra creative types where we want to do films and documentary. Okay, that's fine. But when it comes to just like, let's keep things consistent and coming in. Right?
Yep.
You're. Let's focus on one thing for, for right now that's, you know, home service companies and which can be all sorts of things. It can be windows, it can be, you know, renovation, it can be H Vac. It's like things that do you do in the home. Right. And so, yeah, the, The. The ability to. Cause there's less. There's less to guess for the next client. There's less systems to build. There's less shot lists to build, more copy.
Scalable. It's productized. It's the same kind of thing over and over and over again to where you can build systems around it.
Right? Yes, that's exactly right. So the permission to do. To. To do that, not just the permission, but really the flat out, almost ultimatum, like, just, okay, yeah, you guys can do that. I remember Ethan saying this to me in these meetings last year. Oh, well, you can do that, but that's definitely not what we recommend.
Yeah.
You know, and so we'll try to.
Drag you kicking and screaming as much as we can, but, you know, it's. We'll do. We'll do everything we can to keep you guys in line and make sure.
You'Re good to go.
But for sure. Last question, Ryan. I'll let you get back to closing deals.
Dude.
But I guess if maybe anybody's on the fence and they're, you know, maybe just considering booking a call with us, like, what advice would you give them, kind of knowing what you know now?
I mean, I would just tell them what I wish somebody would have told me then when I was just trying to figure out if this is all legit or not. The. Just first of all, book a call for sure. Book a call with them and follow, you know, follow what they say and you will see the results 100%. You don't even have to be that particularly skilled or talented or outgoing. Like all these things. Like, they address all of that stuff. Right? They have answers for those things. You're like, oh, well, I'm not a sales guy. Okay, well, they have a solution for that. Oh, well, hey, I'm not an ad. Okay, well, they have. They teach you how to run ads. Okay. For your own company. Oh, well, this, that, you know, I don't. I don't have that bit much of a portfolio. I don't have a bunch of clients that I'm, you know, I've got clients, but I don't have all these case studies. Like, they have processes for all that stuff. So if you're on the fence, book a call. When you start getting into those modules, you'll see like, oh, crap. Okay. They've really thought this through. And at least at the very least do that.
I've spent. I think I've spent the past five, six years refining it. So I hope I thought of those things. But, dude, I appreciate it. I'm going to clip that thing and send that to everybody who we talk to, because I think it's a good point. It's like, it's a lot of pain points and things that people go through their head before they jump in. They're like, hey, I don't know. Like, it. I don't. I don't want to be a salesperson. I don't have a portfolio. They think they need better work. They think they need all these things. But ultimately, it's like, how do you get in front of more people? Get more leads, get more calls, get more people to talk to. And then you will fall into a sale if you suck at sales, and then you can hire people to do it for you if you don't want to.
Exactly. Right. Right. Yeah.
So huge, man. I appreciate your time. I appreciate you taking the time today. Dude. I'm excited to do another one of these when we're multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars. Seven figures, eventually. And keep crushing it.
It's coming.
Yep. I've got.
I've got some. I've got some. We got some stuff in the works.
I love it. Well, I appreciate your time.
Absolutely, man.
