Evan Sanchez explains why adult children resist parental advice: their brains perceive it as pressure, not content. His "calm authority" framework uses different language and tone to become a supportive presence they actually seek out. He's offering a free workshop June 10 at 7 PM Eastern on conversations with college grads who've moved back home.

The reason nothing you have said to your adult child is working has nothing to do with what you're actually saying. And moms of college grads who are stuck at home need to hear this. So here's what's actually happening. When your young adult hears advice from you, even good advice, even advice that they will eventually follow, their brain processes it. As pressure. And the brain's response to pressure from a parent is always, always the same: resistance, shutdown, withdrawal. Now, this is not a personality flaw. This is not them being difficult. This is a predictable neurological pattern in the parent-adult-child dynamic. The more valid the advice, The more the pushback escalates. Because the young adult's nervous system is not evaluating the content, it is reacting to the source. So what that means practically is that you cannot advise your way through this, no matter how good that advice is. What works instead is a completely different approach. I call it calm authority. Now it's not backing off. It's not pressure. It is a specific framework for becoming the kind of presence in your young adult's life that they actually come to for guidance because the guidance stopped feeling like control and felt like support. So for everyone who doesn't know me, my name is Evan Sanchez. I'm a certified life coach, an energy leadership practitioner. And the founder of New Grad Launchpad Coaching. Now, I use this exact framework on my own adult children, and I teach it to parents every single day. Now, on June 10th at 7 PM Eastern, I'm hosting a free 90-minute workshop, When Your College Grad Moves Back Home and Stops Moving Forward. 3 keys, specific language, and a completely different approach to the conversation that has not been working. So please join me on June 10th at 7:00 PM Eastern, and I'll see you then.
