Is your kid gaming all night? Do this instead #parenting #family

Evan Sanchez says telling your kid to stop gaming doesn't work. Instead, ask what they love about it, listen without judgment, and help them notice how it actually makes them feel before and after.

My son just plays video games all night and sleeps all day. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this from parents. This is a common phrase. So for those of you who don't know me, my name is Evan Sanchez and I help you get your kid out of your basement. So what most parents would do in this situation is it'd be like, stop playing video games, start applying to jobs, or something along those lines. But that's not going to work. What do you need to get curious? So what would that conversation look like? That conversation would look like this: Hey, I've noticed you've been playing video games a lot. I'm curious, what do you enjoy about video games? You see, no judgment, no shame. And they'll probably respond with something like, I don't know, it just makes me feel good. And then you would say something along the lines of, feels good, that makes sense. I'm curious, what about that makes you feel good? Like, how do you feel before versus after playing a video game? You see how this is a very different conversation than what you're going to say? What we're trying to do here is we're trying to get curious. We're trying to listen to them. They may not know what's going on, but we need to find the underlying cause, and we need to— instead of talk them into anything, we need to listen them into it. So that's how you handle that challenge. For more tips like this, make sure to subscribe and follow me for more.
