The Byron Katie Method That Helps You Beat Imposter Syndrome

Byron Katie's "The Work" uses four questions to challenge imposter syndrome beliefs. Ask if the thought is true, if you can know for certain, how you react when you believe it, and who you'd be without it. The turnaround flips the belief: "I'm not smart enough" becomes "I am smart enough."

Imposter syndrome. So this is something that I see a lot of people struggle with. I know that I have struggled with it in the past. How do you get over it? So I was on a call today and somebody mentioned that they had imposter syndrome. And then somebody else said, have you heard of The Work? And I said, I haven't heard of The Work. And The Work is an approach by a person named Byron Katie. And I'll take you through the 4 questions that she asks to alleviate the imposter syndrome. So the first question that she asks is, is it true? Is this true? Is this belief true? And I'm going to be looking at my notes. Um, it feels true, but do I know for sure? That's question 1. Question 2 is, can I absolutely know it's true? The answer is probably not really. Question number 3: How do I react when I believe this? So when you believe that belief, of not being good enough or not being smart enough, how do you react? Probably small, anxious. In short, not your best self. Question number 4, and this is the most important one: Who would I be without this thought? So think to your future self and think, Who would I be if I didn't have this limiting belief? Well, the answer is usually more confident, more willing to take risks, more willing to put myself out there. And then the last part of this approach is called the turnaround. And the turnaround is taking that original belief and making it into the opposite. So if you said, "I am not smart enough, I'm not good enough," you can turn around and say, "I am smart enough, I am good enough." So I think this is an excellent approach. And my question for you is, have you felt imposter syndrome? Or maybe you're currently feeling imposter syndrome. And if so, do you think this approach would help you? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you in the next video.
