You're going to want to stop eating baby carrots after you watch this video because baby carrots aren't really babies at all. They're actually full grown carrots that you would never buy from the grocery store because they look weird. California farmer Mike Urosek invented baby carrots in 1986 because he couldn't sell the weird carrots and was throwing away nearly half of his crop. So he used a bean cutter to chop up those weird carrots into 2 inch pieces and peeled and polished them to look all shiny and smooth. The idea worked. In just one year, carrot sales went up 30%. And within 30 years, baby carrots are now the main kind of carrot that everyone one is eating. But heads up, you might want to learn to like weird carrots because freshly harvested garden carrots, no matter how strange they look, are full of way more nutrients than those perfectly peeled and polished ones. Because baby carrots don't have that outer coating, they need to get washed in chlorine to prevent bacteria, and they're way more likely to go slimy before you get to eat them.
