This video is only for people who want to grow a garden this year. So everybody else, you can just keep scrolling. Did everybody leave? All right, now I found my people. The garden season is almost here. So while we're getting ready, let me tell you five things that I would do differently if I was just getting started. The first mistake I made was rushing the setup. I had been dreaming about a garden for years, and then one day, Jason and I just ran over to the hardware store and built the garden in a day, and it was a complete disaster. I regretted that garden for two years. Right now, you've got plenty of time to do your research and make a plan, because trust me, once you set your garden up, it's the hardest thing to change. The second mistake I made was not planting nearly enough seeds and plants. If you've never gardened before, let me tell you, you are way underestimating the amount of plants it takes to feed you. Plus, all those blank spots in your garden because you didn't buy enough plants and seeds, they're going to cause you some major problems. So whatever number of plants and seeds you think you need, you're going to multiply it by at least six. My third mistake was not planting any smelly plants. You know how excited you are for your new garden and all the things you're going to grow. Well, let me tell you, the wildlife, they're even more excited. That's where smelly plants come in. I'm talking about herbs and flowers. These plants planted alongside your vegetables put off strong scents that repel the wildlife. You don't want to come near your garden and welcome in the good guys like bees and butterflies. Mistake number four is I forgot to grow up. Trellises are these really cool supports you can use in your garden that literally double your growing space. Growing vertically gives your plants more access to airflow and sunlight. They're more productive, and also, it's pretty. The fifth mistake I made was only planting my garden one time. All of us, no matter where we're gardening, have at least three seasons in the garden. This means we need to plant several times every single year. I made all the mistakes in my garden so you don't have to. I'm teaching a class today about how to set your garden right the first time, and you can watch it for free right below this video.
