This is the story of how gardening changed my life. In 2015, I started a gardening business called Rooted Garden. It started as an experiment to see if I could earn a little bit of money by gardening to help with all the bills that just kept piling up. With four kids at home in a few months I was putting in gardens every single week. In 2016, I quit my other contract work and went all in on this side hustle. I created gardens for some of the biggest businesses and leaders in my city. I worked on some incredible projects with some incredible people. I learned a lot about making money as a gardener in a short, short period of time. 1. Kitchen gardens are where the money is. Most lawns and typical landscapes have low budgets. Companies and homeowners invest a lot in food gardens. 2. You don't need to be a landscaper or horticulturist. No one I've worked with needed me to have those credentials. They simply wanted someone who was personable and could help them learn to garden. 3. Garden coaching is still an untapped market with companies, homeowners and community organizations want to learn to garden, but there's not enough people with the skills to help.
