I'm sure there are a thousand ways to grow your own sweet potatoes, but this is the easiest way to do it. Just get a whiskey barrel and add some drainage holes to the bottom, put some burlap on the bottom, and then add topsoil, compost and sand all mixed together. Then you're just going to take a sweet potato from the grocery store that's growing all these weird little stems off of it and place it right in the middle of the whiskey barrel, cover it up with soil and compost, and then literally, you don't have to touch it all summer long. Let it sit there for about four or five months, and then dig it up and you'll have three or four or five new sweet potatoes for berry.
