Nicole Johnsey Burke shows why your carrots aren't growing: you're planting too many seeds in one spot. Space them 2 to 3 inches apart, or about two to three finger widths. Overcrowded seeds become a tangle of leaves instead of proper roots.

Is this not a carrot? What is it? Baby, there ain't nothing here. I didn't think so. What is it supposed to be? I don't know.
Hey there, I'm Nicole Johnsey Burke, and I want to be sure that next time you plant your carrot seeds, you actually get a carrot. Now, you did the right thing by starting your carrots by seed. The only mistake you made is by dumping the entire packet of seed in just one hole. See, every single little seed is going to turn into a whole carrot, so So rather than placing all of them in one little spot, you want to spread them out. Every single carrot seed, it needs to be spaced about 2 to 3 fingers from the next seed. You can use a little handy ruler like this, but basically you want to make one line in the soil and then plant a seed every 2 to 3 inches. And next time, instead of that big bunch of leaves, when you tug on your plant, you're going to end up with this. Keep gardening, don't give up, you got this!
