Nicole Johnsey Burke explains why your cucumber plant looks healthy but won't fruit. Check if it's under 60 days old (only male flowers yet), if bees are visiting (hand-pollinate with a paintbrush if not), or if it needs phosphorus-rich compost at the base.

If your cucumber plant looks like this one, so beautiful and healthy, but zero cucumbers, I've got 3 questions for you. Number 1, how old is your plant? If your plant is less than 60 days old, then be patient. Likely your plant is just covered in male flowers and the females haven't shown up yet. Number 2, how many bees do you have around your cucumbers? If there's not a lot, you're gonna have to bee one yourself. Grab a paintbrush and move the pollen from male flowers to female flowers every single morning. Number 3, when was the last time you added compost to your garden? These plants are looking healthy. They've got plenty of nitrogen and potassium, But to fruit, they're gonna need some phosphorus. So you might wanna add a little bit of compost to the base of your plant.
