I’m shouting it from the rooftops over here📣STOP buying your herbs from the grocery! #herbs #garden

Nicole Johnsey Burke says grocery store herbs lose flavor and nutrients in transit. Grow them at home instead in a 2-foot steel tub with topsoil, sand, and compost. Herbs need minimal sun and space, and you can grow them year-round.

This has got to stop. This is how America currently gets its herbs packaged in plastic, shipped across the country, losing its flavor and nutrients before it even reaches your fridge. While every single one of us could grow a year round supply of herbs right outside our front door, herbs are one of the easiest things to grow in the kitchen garden. They require minimal sun, minimal space. The main thing you have to do to keep them alive is simply harvest them. Herbs are packed with flavor and nutrients, antioxidants, so many vitamins that our bodies desperately need. But the second these tender leaves are harvested from the main plant, they begin to lose their nutritional value and of course, their flavor. That's why I want to teach you to grow your own herbs at home this season. You can start with a 2 foot diameter steel tub like this one. Put some drainage holes in the bottom, then create a simple soil mix inside made of topsoil or sand and organic compost. Now it's time to find organic herb plants from a local nursery and fill the container up. Growing a year round supply of herbs is just part of the gardenary way and I'll teach you the rest of the way in this week's Gardenary Way workshop. Learn more in the caption.
