YouTube short by Nicole Johnsey Burke responding to a creator who threw out bagged salad; Burke argues commercial lettuce loses nutrition/taste during shipping and storage and encourages viewers to grow their own lettuce, describing it as easy (small containers, simple seeding, multiple harvests per plant). She introduces the Free Salad Garden Challenge and invites sign-up linked below the video.

Foreign. This is so relatable and honestly so sad. But I know it's happened to all of us and it's not our fault. Lettuces were not meant to be harvested, shipped across the country and then refrigerated for two weeks. Lettuces were meant to be harvested and eaten right away to make the most of the nutritional value that's there and also how it taste better. The way we can do this is not by buying it from the grocery, but from growing it ourselves. And listen, lettuce is the easiest thing you can grow. The seeds, they go right in soil. They can be planted in a tiny little container. The roots are so little and every single seed turns into a plant that you can cut from at least two or three times. From this one seed packet, you could grow at least 60 to 100 of those little salad bags that she just tossed in the trash. I honestly love this creator for posting this video because I was too ashamed to admit the same thing happened to me. Me. But it's time for a change and I want to teach all of us how to grow our own salad through the Free Salad Garden Challenge. You can sign up for it right below this video.
