There’s so many plants to pick from but these are my essential starter plants🌱#garden #plants#seeds

Nicole Johnsey Burke picks 10 essential starter plants: spinach, arugula, radishes, carrots, sugar snap peas, bush beans, cucumbers, zucchini, and zinnias. She explains why each works for beginners and when to plant them, plus how to succession plant so one crop replaces another as seasons change.

I grow hundreds of plants in my garden, but where the heck do you even start? Today I'm going to show you my 10-plant garden starter pack, and I'm going to show you how you can get all these for free. The base of every garden should be a ton of leafy greens. Spinach is my favorite leafy green to grow through the winter. The leaves are Savoy, which means they're bumpy and they protect them from frost. Arugula is a green you can almost grow year-round. It doesn't mind cold, it doesn't mind hot, and it tastes so much better than store-bought. This spring mix is what taught me how to garden, and you can grow it in the spring and the fall. Next in the starter pack are root cool crops. These only need about 6 hours of sun. They grow in the shade. First are radishes. These are going to grow in the spring and in the fall. You'll get a radish harvest faster than anything else you plant in the garden. Carrots can be planted by seed directly in the soil as soon as things start to warm up in the early spring, and you'll have tons of carrots to harvest all summer long. Fruiting crops are the hardest ones to grow in the garden, but I put these 4 in the starter pack because you can grow them from seed planted directly in the soil. Sugar snap peas are the fruit that you're going to get in spring and in fall. These do not mind frost. They grow up a trellis and give you tons of harvest that you can come out and eat right inside your own garden. When you pull your radishes that you planted in the spring, replace them with a bush bean seed. These can grow right over the edge of the bed. They'll spill over and give you beans in 60 days. As your sugar snap peas are growing in the spring, as soon as frost has passed, you want to take some cucumber seeds and plant them right alongside your trellis. Grow up and over, you'll be picking cucumbers all summer long. I like to grow zucchini right over the edge of my gardens. As soon as frost has passed, take a seed, Stick it right in the soil right here, and you're going to get this huge plant growing over the side, dozens of zucchini from every single seed. And of course you need some flowers, so I put zinnias in the starter pack because these are the easiest cut flower to grow. You just take a few seeds, sprinkle them alongside your garden, you're going to have dozens of blooms to harvest all summer long from every single seed. I'm giving away this entire garden starter pack for free, so find out how to get yours in the caption.
