Fish disease case nr. 130 Badis badis with parasites Ichthyobodo (ex-Costia) and bacterial infection

Gerald Bassleer examines a Badis badis with Ichthyobodo parasites and bacterial infection causing fin rot and gill damage. A heater failure stressed the fish and opened the door to both infections. Treatment starts with temperature correction and antibiotics before targeting the parasites.

Hello dear Akarist or fish keeper.
Welcome to my case 130 and today.
It'S about a special fish which is.
Not so very common in our aquarium hobby.
It's about these bodies.
And I share you my screen where I can show you my findings. This little fish, the body's bodies had a parasitic infection called ichthyobodal, used to be called Kostia and a bacterial infection.
Here we see the fish in the aquarium.
The fish were becoming weak, skinny, listless, wasting away. And some had fin damage or tail damage, rotting away. For the rest we could see not much at all.
So that's why we need to use.
A microscope and take out the very sick one. The one that's going to die is the best example to help finding out.
A solution for the other fish. Maybe notice already here on the tail.
You see the tail rod taken rotten away.
Here is a bacterial load.
So the tail is in necrotic stage. And you can see in the next video the parasites. You see the tiny little things moving around.
Those are not bacteria.
The bacteria are even much smaller.
But those tiny little bugs here moving around is Costia or Ichthiaboro. This is at 100 magnification and that's.
Of course difficult to see.
But you see all the many tiny things. And here we go to a 200 magnification. You see how that we can see them moving around. They're flagellated, they're swirling around. You see there are many here. They're causing damage, they're causing the opportunity that bacteria can infiltrate in the wounds. You could also find them in the gills. Here you see the parasites moving around. We see some gill damage here.
Here we see some gill damage with.
Bacterial infection and poor functioning of the gills and at the same time having parasites. So it's the combined infection here we.
Notice in this fish.
So what can we suggest for treatment?
Well, the first action you to take.
Is look at the cause. And the cause was here, stress situation.
Due to cold, temperature because the heater didn't work.
Well. The second action is to take is controlling the bacterial infection.
Because the bacterial infection in the gills.
Or the skin is really killing off the fish. And at the same time or a.
Few days later, you can try to.
Treat the parasites with an anti parasitic treatment like formalin malachite green or ask.
