Gerald Bassleer examines a Nigerian Pelvicachromis cichlid with severe intestinal parasites (Spironucleus) and bacterial infection. The fish showed emaciation, an enlarged gall bladder, and necrotic liver and spleen. Treatment involves metronidazole and specialized biofish food with Lapacho.

Hello, dear aquarist. Welcome to my fish disease case 139. And today we will talk about the cichlids. Not from this river here, which is behind me here, that's the Amazon, but from Africa. It was a wild imported Pelvic Acromis cichlid which came from Nigeria. Yes, some nice cichlids can come from there, collected in the rivers. This one was not well taken care of because it was suffering from parasites, spiral nucleus and bacterial infection. So I share with you here my findings. Here we see the fish, the pelvic acromis, in the water, getting skinny, some looking healthier. But look at this one. This is wasting away. And this fish is ready for examination because he will die in the coming hours. And by taking out the internal organs already we found that there was a very large G bladder, the pancreas. And that was because the fish was not eating. There was an empty gut. We can see here the empty gut. You could see the liver was in poor condition. And the spleen has many dark specks inside. So I show you in my findings when I use the microscope. Here we see that spleen with a lot of melanomacrophar centers, MMCs and bacteria in the water. We see some tissue deterioration of the sides of the spleen. So this is a very bad spleen, not working well. Also the liver. Look how bad the liver looks. This is normal brown tissue. But look at this necrotic tissue. So the liver is in bad condition. And the intestine, that is the interesting thing we found. You see it on the video. See here all the tiny parasites. See how many are here and here. This is Pyronucleus. We used to call it Hexameter. The new name is Pyronucleus. And this parasite is causing a serious problem on the health of the fish, because it has an impact on the health of the gut. The microbiome here we see more here at the side, here, inside all in the gut we have these tiny parasites. So you can locally treat that fish. And you can use metronidazole, which is the best product in my experience. And there are some similar products available in your accordion shop. Please ask. You also have to treat against the bacterial infection. And the fish is advanced in an advanced stage, maybe not at the beginning. You can help with our Dr. Besler biofish food, Lapacho, which is particularly developed to control this kind of infection and for the repair of the fish. So some products like a fish food and a medication can really help to solve the problems of this kind of infection, which is a common infection with cichlids like on this Belvika chromis Wild collector from Nigeria. Thank you for watching and stay informed by following my videos and all what I have to offer in my findings on fish diseases. Thank you.
